Highlights

  • EA Motive, founded in 2015, has worked on major IPs like Star Wars and Dead Space, gaining recognition for its capabilities.
  • EA Motive is currently developing an Iron Man game, with the project potentially far along in development based on recent comments.
  • Despite some developers working on the next Battlefield game, EA Motive reassures fans that Iron Man remains a top priority. With a "major" internal milestone hit, a proper reveal of the game happening soon would make sense.

Founded back in 2015, EA Motive is still a relatively fresh-faced video game developer with just a few credits to its name, but those credits are rather impressive. Formed as an internal EA studio from the get-go, Motive's first project was to create the campaign for 2017's Star Wars Battlefront 2, which was followed by the dogfighter Star Wars Squadrons. Though both projects had their fair share of criticism, they showed that Motive was capable of working on a major IP, something that last year's Dead Space remake further cemented. And now, there's a lot of faith that EA Motive's Iron Man game is in good hands.

Announced back in September 2022, EA Motive is currently hard at work on creating the first truly AAA Iron Man video game. Naturally, a project of this size and caliber is going to take quite some time to develop, but based on a recent comment from Motive's General Manager Patrick Klaus, Iron Man could be further along in development than some might think, and a reveal could be waiting just around the corner.

An EA Motive Iron Man Trailer Could Drop Very Soon

EA Motive Is Making Good Progress on Iron Man

A few weeks ago, EA announced that development on Battlefield 2042 would finally be coming to an end following its seventh season of post-launch content, and that developers were now starting to join forces to work on the next installment in the franchise. EA Motive was named as one such developer, being enlisted by EA to work on the next Battlefield's single-player component. Naturally, the knee-jerk reaction of many fans was to question how this would affect the development of Motive's Iron Man game, to which the studio's head, Patrick Klaus, made a formal announcement.

Along with mentioning that he's entering his fifth year as Motive's General Manager, Klaus' recent statement confirmed that a portion of Motive's developers would now be working on the next Battlefield game, with Dead Space remake's Philippe Ducharme and Roman Campos-Oriola leading the team. Klaus then went on to confirm that development is progressing well on Iron Man, stating that the team hit a "major internal milestone" this year, and that the project remains "an important priority for Motive."

While this statement doesn't give much of an indication of when Motive's Iron Man game could potentially release, it does sound like things are going according to plan. Though the game could still be a while away, EA might be tempted to release the first teaser for Iron Man if everything is currently going smoothly. Though it can't be used as a direct point of comparison due to its different developer and publisher, Skydance's Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra was first announced back in October 2021, and its first teaser came out just under a year later. EA Motive's partnership with Marvel was first announced back in October 2022, potentially meaning that an initial reveal might not be too far away.

When Fans Could See Iron Man's First Trailer

If there is an Iron Man trailer on its way soon, then the most likely place for it to appear is during this year's Summer showcase season. With EA not usually hosting its own showcases like PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and Ubisoft do, an Iron Man teaser would be likely to appear during a general Summer showcase event, such as Summer Game Fest, or potentially Gamescom's Opening Night Live event. With EA Motive's Iron Man game still probably a while away from launch, fans can expect to see a CG trailer first in a similar vein to Marvel 1943's original reveal, teasing the game's setting and tone first and foremost.
