Ubisoft has officially announced a new Invincible video game based on the popular comic book-turned-cartoon. The name of the game is Invincible: Guarding the Globe, and it probably isn't what many fans would have expected. Rather than an action game, an adventure game, or even a tactical RPG, Ubisoft has partnered with Skybound comics to make an Invincible free-to-play mobile idle RPG. Invincible fans that also love free-to-play mobile games now have a game to look forward to.Invincible is a comic book written by Robert Kirkman with art from Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley. It's well-loved for providing a grittier, more violent take on superhero adventures. While the Invincible comic book has always been popular, it exploded into new levels of popularity with the release of an animated adaptation on Amazon Prime Video. It's planned for release "soon," though players can pre-register now to receive special rewards.

The story of Invincible: Guarding the Globe revolves around the attack of a clone army. Players join the Global Defense Agency and work with head of GDA Cecil Stedman to recruit familiar popular Invincible characters to take on the clone army in super-powered battles. Players can either control their squads themselves to play through the campaign, or they can set up idle battles that will run in the background on their devices.

While monetization hasn't been detailed, mobile game fans are likely familiar with Invincible's general design elements. Players will be tasked with collecting characters, leveling them up, equipping them with items, and taking on daily and weekly challenges. Expect various progression paths and currencies, as well as limitations, that each involve potential microtransactions.

Still, even as a mobile game, there are a lot of Invincible fans that will look forward to a game featuring content from the comic book and cartoon.
