Fans of Marvel games have a lot to look forward to in the coming years with several titles in development, including those from Insomniac, according to data that was leaked after the developer suffered a cyberattack that gave hackers access to sensitive company information. Among the recently leaked information were details about Insomniac's upcoming games, including a development roadmap that showed plans for a future X-Men game after Marvel's Wolverine. While this title is likely a ways off, Marvel's Wolverine could set the stage for its plot, which should include a character popularized by another recent title, Marvel's Midnight Suns.

The wait for Marvel's Wolverine is likely to continue for some time, as the leaked plans for the title point toward a 2026 release for the game. However, Insomniac is likely already determining how the title will play into their larger X-Men game set to release after Wolverine, meaning it's possible that the developer is considering the popularity of other X-Men characters from recent media when deciding the game's story and characters. Although Marvel's Midnight Suns didn't achieve the commercial success it had hoped for, the game helped popularize X-Men's Magik, who would be a fan-favorite addition to Insomniac's title.

Illyana Rasputin, known as Magik among Marvel's heroes, is the younger sister of the X-Men's Colossus, who joined the X-Men as part of Charles Xavier's New Mutants program after she was abducted by the dark sorcerer Belasco and taken to Limbo. While in Limbo, time passed much more slowly compared to time on Earth, and Illyana was able to hone her skills within the dark arts, allowing her teleportation mutation to manifest. Magik gained the use of the Soulsword while in Limbo, which granted her the title of Limbo's ruler and allowed her to channel her powers and conjure portals to the dimension.

In Marvel's Midnight Suns, Magik is one of the four members players can initially meet, along with Blade, Ghost Rider, and Nico Minoru. What made her so memorable to many players is her tragic story of being trapped in Limbo, growing up there alone, and now feeling isolated among her peers in the Midnight Suns as a result. This characterization led many players to sympathize with her and allowed Magik to stand out as a popular character in the game, even among the likes of icons like Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Captain Marvel.

Stories Featuring Magik that Insomniac's X-Men Game Could Adapt

One obvious story that Insomniac's X-Men game could include is the story of how Magik escaped Limbo, which could end up being quite dark for the title. Originally, alternate-universe versions of Storm and Kitty Pryde attempted to rescue Magik from Limbo, but she was forced to kill them at the order of Belasco, only later escaping and returning to her reality's version of these characters after mastering her portal-conjuring abilities. This story could allow players to experience an epic battle, either from the point of view of Magik, or from that of Storm and Kitty Pryde, creating a tragic scene and a strong basis for character growth within the game.

According to the leaks about Marvel's Wolverine, it appears that Mister Sinister will be the primary antagonist of that game, but if the follow-up X-Men game wants to feature a different villain, there is a great candidate in the Beyonder that could allow Magik to play a starring role in the game. As the semi-omnipotent being responsible for starting the Secret Wars, Professor X took a risk and sent Magik with Magneto to battle this threat, which unfortunately resulted in Magik unlocking her dark side, known as the Darkchylde. This led to another battle against her comrades that could also make for a climactic fight in Insomniac's X-Men game.
