Marvel fans have been in pretty good shape when it comes to solid video game offerings over the last few years. Releases like Marvel's Spider-Man and the tie-in Spider-Man: Miles Morales have made a significant impact on the industry as a whole, and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy has proven to be a pleasant surprise shortly after launch, boasting an entertaining story and engaging gameplay. Marvel's momentum shows no signs of slowing down, and perhaps one of the most exciting games on the horizon is Marvel's Wolverine. Even with the limited information around it, its very existence has already made a big splash.

Marvel's Wolverine has a lot of potential to be the kind of solo Wolverine game that many fans have been begging for. Developer Insomniac has already proven its ability to create a game faithful to the history of its starring character with Spider-Man, and it's likely that same expertise will be applied to one of Marvel's most recognizable mutants. One of the most charming aspects of Spider-Man was the many suits from the wall-crawler's history that could be unlocked, and the same system could be applied to Wolverine. While there are many to choose from, there are a few iconic Wolverine suits that simply can't be ignored.

The X-Men Animated Series Wolverine Suit

Wolverine X-Men Animated Series

One of the most iconic Wolverine suits over the years has almost always been his yellow and blue suit. This suit has seen a lot of variation over the years, but arguably the most recognizable version is the one from the X-Men animated series. From the giant Batman-esque ears on the mask to the red belt with the big X on the front, this suit would surely dig up nostalgic memories. If Insomniac wants to take a page out of its own book, it could even make the costume look as if it's ripped straight out of the cartoon like it did with the unique art style of the Spider-Man costumes based on Into the Spider-Verse.

The Yellow & Brown Wolverine Suit

No one can say that Wolverine is afraid of bold color combinations, and his classic yellow and brown suit is perhaps the best indication of that. This suit is a slimmed down version of the yellow and blue get up, ditching the shoulder pads and bold lines for a look that is somewhat more simplistic. It's only somewhat, though, because the winged mask, boots, and the red belt are all still there. Including the yellow and brown suit in Marvel's Wolverine would be a great way of paying tribute to Logan's comic history. While it pops up in other media occasionally, it's rarely given the same recognition as the yellow and blue.

The X-Men Film's Wolverine Suit

The dawn of the 21st century proved to be a formative time for the comic book industry and superheroes as a whole, as the world of film would revolutionize how fans see their favorite heroes. Wolverine is one of many heroes that was affected by this surge of comic book films, and the X-Men film is arguably the most responsible for the perception of Wolverine as it exists today. Wolverine's battle suit in this film was more toned down compared to his comic appearances, taking a black leather approach indicative of the early 2000s. Fashion trends aside, this suit represents Wolverine's meteoric rise in stardom over the last twenty years. Without the X-Men film and this suit, it's possible that Marvel's Wolverine would never have existed.

If Insomniac's track record with Spider-Man is to be believed, it's possible that Marvel's Wolverine will include a myriad of different suits across the character's history. Wolverine is one of the most important characters in Marvel's history, and representing that history through suits and other references is a great way to recognize that. Wolverine's trailer already contained a handful of easter eggs, so until more information on the game is released, fans should stay hopeful that the game will stay faithful to Logan's long comic legacy.

Marvel's Wolverine is currently in development for the PS5.
