The creative director of Spider-Man 2, Bryan Intihar, has confirmed that the game takes place in the same universe as Insomniac's upcoming title, The Wolverine. Spider-Man 2 has been a major success for the developer and the PS5 with record-breaking sales numbers and amazing critical reviews virtually across the board. With Insomniac handling various projects starring Marvel characters, fans have been curious whether, and how, the titles will interact.

Wolverine, the character, was teased as one of Spider-Man 2's Easter eggs, but there hasn't been much concerning the connection between the two games other than that. While both games are under the Insomniac umbrella, they are being handled internally by different teams. Still, Insomniac's track record of success, especially lately on the PS5, has fans excited about The Wolverine as well as any future games in the Spider-Man series.

In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, Spider-Man 2 creative director Bryan Intihar confirmed that the existing games take place in the same universe as The Wolverine. Intihar claimed that both games take place in universe 1048 before jokingly adding, "I think I got that right." There is currently some speculation that a Spider-Man 2 detail might be teasing Wolverine's setting, but Intihar only went as far as to say that the games take place in the same universe.

Based on the creative director's comments, it seems that both games take place in the same universe, but it doesn't appear as though there will be too much of a crossover initially. When asked about the seeming lack of Wolverine in Spider-Man 2, Intihar said that the move was intentional. His focus was to make a great Spider-Man game while letting the Wolverine team "cook."

Especially at the initial stages, there are arguments to keep Insomniac's Spider-Man and Wolverine series separate despite taking place in the same universe. Both characters are tonally very different, and while fans know Insomniac's versions of Peter and Miles pretty well at this point, the studio's take on Logan is still a mystery.

Insomniac may also have other Marvel projects coming. There have been rumors about Insomniac working on a third game based on a Marvel Comics property, and Spider-Man 2's narrative director commented on a potential Venom spin-off game. Of course, nothing has been confirmed at this point as The Wolverine is still likely a year or two away. With the success the studio has had so far, though, many fans are hoping that Insomniac will eventually try their hand at adapting other popular comic book characters.
