Comic book author Tom Taylor recently tweeted out a somewhat cryptic teaser, that may be hinting at the announcement of Injustice 3.

The teaser comes in the form of a close-up image of the letter "I" which looks awfully similar to the Injustice font. The image is accompanied by a quote by Batman that reads: "I think it could have been different." It should be noted that this teaser could either be hinting at a new Injustice video game, or a new Injustice comic.

Injustice: Gods Among Us released way back in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (and later for the PS4 and Xbox One), with its sequel Injustice 2 releasing in 2017 for current-gen consoles. Injustice 2 got revealed in June of 2016, roughly three years after the first title was released and about one year ahead of its own release, so the timing would be perfect if the third game in the series was to be revealed later this year with a 2021 release date.

Speculating even further, NetherRealm Studios has developed a pattern of releasing Mortal Kombat and Injustice games back-and-forth, with one title releasing every other year: Mortal Kombat 9 in 2011, Injustice in 2013, Mortal Kombat X in 2015, Injustice 2 in 2017, Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019, etc. If NetherRealm were to stick to their established pattern, Injustice 3 should be due sometime next year.

Tom Taylor has worked on a wide range of comic book-related content for both Marvel and DC, including X-Men, Iron Man, Batman, and more. Taylor is the co-creator of the all-ages adventure graphic novel The Deep, which received its own CG animated TV series. Taylor was also the author of the Injustice comic book series, which served as a direct prequel to the video games of the same name. The Injustice video game series features a wide range of DC superheroes and villains including Batman, Superman, The Joker, Wonder Woman, and more, with gameplay similar to the Mortal Kombat games.

Injustice and Mortal Kombat have crossed paths more than once, with Scorpion appearing in the first Injustice, Joker appearing in Mortal Kombat 11, and several Mortal Kombat characters showing up in Injustice 2.

Injustice 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
