With Injustice 2 aiming for a May 2017 launch, a new comic series is set to launch soon which will bridge the gap between the events of the sequel and the original game. Tom Taylor, who wrote much of the Injustice: Gods Among Us comic series, is creating a new series that will setup the world of the upcoming fighting game before gamers get a chance to play it for themselves. The series will debut digitally on April 11, and come to a comic book store near you on May 3.

In an interview with GameSpot, Tom Taylor tells fans what to expect from the Injustice 2 comic when it launches. According to the writer, the story will pick up shortly after the events of the first game. As Batman and his team attempt to fix the chaos left in the wake of Superman's dictatorial regime, a big threat is growing and the world will soon be in even greater peril than before. As revealed in past trailers, this looks to be at least partly the fault of Brainiac, who will be making an appearance in the game.

Taylor also reveals that Batman will need to rely on new allies Black Canary and Blue Beetle, as well as returning characters such as Harley Quinn to combat this new enemy and, when asked if the now-imprisoned Superman can really be contained, responded that we'll find out the answer very soon. DC fans might be very pleased to hear that the Suicide Squad is back and bigger than ever in the new series, with a major event happening early on which turns the very concept of the squad on its head.

The Injustice 2 comic writer concluded the interview by saying that he has met with game director Ed Boon, who "grinned ear-to-ear" when Taylor told him some early ideas for the story. Since the comics and the games act as different chapters of the same story, Tom Taylor is also very excited to play the title's story mode when it releases in later on in the year.

If you haven't seen it already, Injustice 2 recently revealed a new trailer, showing off some of the game's female characters in action. The new trailer shines the spotlight on returning fighter Catwoman, as well as giving us a look at how Black Canary, Poison Ivy, and Cheetah will play once the full game is released.

Injustice 2 is set to release on May 16, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The comic series will debut digitally on April 11, and release in print on May 3.
