Following the recent open beta for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, developer Infinity Ward reveals its plans for updating the game before launch later in October. For most fans, a new Call of Duty launch is always a big moment in the year, but it seems the excitement surrounding Modern Warfare 2 hit new heights. According to Infinity Ward, the Modern Warfare 2 open beta had the most players in franchise history, even with a limited selection of content on offer.

Thankfully, with that many players, Infinity Ward was seemingly able to collect a lot of data and feedback for how to improve Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 going forward. Following the end of the recent beta tests, Infinity Ward put out a blog post thanking the fans who stopped by to check out the game. In addition, the studio revealed a few insights into what it learned during the beta sessions and outlined a few areas that are going to be improved for launch and beyond.

Infinity Ward started by mentioning some higher profile issues that the Modern Warfare 2 community raised, such as footstep audio and visibility. The studio admitted that the changes to footstep audio was more positively received during the open beta, though continued improvements will be made to better balance enemy vs friendly footstep audio. Same thing for visibility, which many agreed was better during the second weekend. However, Infinity Ward will continue to tweak it prior to launch, so enemies can be tracked better and not solely dependent on their nameplate.

The Third-Person playlist, Ground War, and the Invasion seemed to get a lot of love from fans during the open weekend beta. Thanks to feedback received, the studio was able to identify a lot of bugs as well as improve the AI navigation during the more chaotic Invasion matches. Weapon performance was another bright spot as Infinity Ward praised the results of the tuning changes made for the open beta weekend. The post also seemed to tease even more changes to come based on weapon data received.

One area that Infinity Ward admitted still needs work is with disbanding lobbies. This issue was one of the biggest issues players had with the Modern Warfare 2 beta, with lobbies sometimes disbanding automatically after matches. While Infinity Ward did address the issue through social media, it appears that the studio is planning on looking at better solutions prior to launch, as the blog post mentions persistent lobbies as being a very important feature.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 launches on October 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
