The Indiana Jones 5 Disney Plus release date was officially announced. While it has been a longer wait than most Disney blockbusters, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny's Disney Plus debut coincides with the holiday season.

Indiana Jones 5 is Harrison Ford's final adventure as the titular archeologist. While many could reasonably assume this would be a draw for audiences, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny flopped at the box office, indicating few were interested in seeing the iconic character's final journey on the big screen.

Hopefully, some moviegoers will be interested in watching the movie when Indiana Jones 5 is released on Disney Plus on December 1, 2023. The Disney Plus date arrives only a few days before Indiana Jones 5 is released on 4K Blu-ray on December 5. Curiously, Indiana Jones 5 will take longer to arrive on Disney Plus than many Disney-owned titles like those from Marvel Studios. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was released on Disney Plus on August 2, 2023, roughly 3 months after its theatrical premiere. Thor: Love and Thunder was released on Disney Plus only two months after debuting in theaters.

Conversely, there is a nearly five-month gap between when Indiana Jones 5 premiered in theaters and its Disney Plus release date. That said, there may be a simple explanation for the long wait. As previously mentioned, predictions that Indiana Jones 5 would perform worse than Kingdom of the Crystal were accurate. While Indiana Jones 5 scored the franchise's second-best opening weekend at the box office, it failed to catch on and became one of Disney's most notable financial failures. So, perhaps Disney wanted to garner as much revenue as possible from the film's digital release before making it freely available to Disney Plus subscribers.

Although Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny reviews were lukewarm, at best, some fans consider it a fitting ending to the franchise, or at least a better note to end on than Crystal Skull. Perhaps Indiana Jones 5 will find additional appreciative viewers after debuting on Disney Plus. Regardless, Ford's tenure as Indy is worth celebrating, so maybe audiences who missed the Dial of Destiny in theaters can catch it on Disney Plus and judge for themselves. If not, the original Indiana Jones movies are also available on the streamer, so fans can always revisit the franchise's glory days.
