Antonio Banderas recently discussed his excitement over appearing in the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. He also provided details on his character and how substantial his role in the film will be.

After voicing the popular character Puss in Boots in the successful Shrek spin-off named after the famous feline, Banderas can be found alongside Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The film is the fifth installment of the franchise that began in 1981 with the smash hit Raiders of the Lost Ark.

As reported by Collider, Banderas expresses his happiness and excitement about being in Indiana Jones 5 during an interview with the Inside Total Film podcast, despite having a relatively small role. Banderas went on to explain the "beauty" of working with Ford, an icon of his since childhood, and his pride at being able to tell his grandchildren he shared the screen with Ford and his iconic character. Banderas also shed light on his Indiana Jones 5 character. "My character is very little. He's not a bad guy, he's a friend of Indiana, helping at some point in the movie. But it's not very big."

Indiana Jones 5, directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the script with brothers Jez and John Henry Butterworth, returns Harrison Ford to the role of everyone’s favorite adventure and accident-prone archeologist, fighting for the good guys amid Nazis and other threats. This is reportedly Ford's last go as the character he made famous in the original and three subsequent sequels, which include Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008).

Originally from Spain, Banderas has likewise made a name for himself with dramatic and comedic roles for the past four decades, including his famous Puss in Boots character and the masked avenger Zorro in the 1998’s The Mask of Zorro. However small his role in the new Indiana Jones sequel is, Banderas seems like a perfect screen match for Ford, whose legacy as an actor is even longer and more storied, dating from when he first caught audience attention as Han Solo in 1977’s Star Wars.

While specific details on the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny plot have been mostly under wraps, audiences are immensely excited to see what the iconic adventurer gets up to next and learn the fate of one of Hollywood’s favorite characters after Ford has retired from the role. The new film is also set to star John Rhys-Davies, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Olivier Richters, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny opens in theaters on June 30, 2023.
