Portrayed by Antonio Aakeel with the perfect mix of pompousness and playfulness, Jak's steadfast ally and fellow Immortal Devyn has serious golden retriever energy. Introduced as players prepare to undergo their final test to become one of the Immortals tasked with protecting Lucium in the Everwar, Devyn becomes a fast friend and fierce ally to protagonist Jak. Devyn Is Jak’s First and Fiercest Friend in the Immortals

Devyn and jak in the Palathon Immortals of Aveum

Players first become acquainted with Devyn as Jak is still learning how to effectively wield his Triarch Magus powers. Traveling to the Immortals’ floating fortress, the Palathon, Jak is preparing for his final test when Devyn makes his debut. Though the game briefly shows that Jak has become acquainted with some of his fellow soldiers in the Light’s Army during his years of service, it's clear that he remains a relative loner. This quickly changes once Devyn, noticing Jak’s awe at the advanced magical technology of the Palathon, introduces himself and gives players an overview of what lies in store for them.

After losing his friends during Immortals of Aveum’s opening minutes, Jak has been by himself for years, so Devyn’s unexpected appearance with helpful information about the test administered by the Immortals’ warrior princess Zendara comes as a much-needed bit of socialization. Even at this first introduction, it's clear that Devyn has taken a shine to his future teammate, and his willingness to help Jak through whatever the world throws at him becomes a constant throughout the game.

Jak’s Impulsive Nature Bends But Never Breaks the Bonds of Friendship With Devyn

As one of the few characters who neither fears nor covets Jak’s powers as an Unforeseen, Devyn stands as Jak’s most steadfast friend. This can be seen in the many humorous interactions between the pair throughout the game, with Devyn standing with Jak even as the protagonist makes some truly questionable decisions. But despite this fierce loyalty to his ally, Jak’s impulsive nature often puts this loyalty to the test. At several points throughout Immortals of Aveum Jak’s stubbornness and unwillingness to follow orders put him at odds with the Immortals, putting Devyn in a difficult position.

But even at Jak’s lowest point, when his choices have called the outcome of the fight against Immortals of Aveum antagonist Sandrakk into question, Devyn remains reluctantly loyal to his ally. When everyone else has written off Jak due to the protagonist’s impulsive actions it’s Devyn’s trust in his sometimes-hotheaded friend that offers Jak a path to redemption and a new shot at victory for the Immortals. Even though it holds the potential of coming at great personal cost to his own role within the Immortals, Devyn refuses to abandon Jak even when it would be the safest option.

As both one of the most consistently comedic characters in Immortals of Aveum and one of its most heartfelt, Devyn is a highlight of the fantasy shooter. His willingness to support and stand by Jak through thick and thin isn’t just a good plot point, it shows that he’s a friend that anyone would be lucky to have.

Immortals of Aveum is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
