When Immortals of Aveum players first come face-to-face with the towering warrior princess of Kalthus, Zendara, the intimidating Immortal is likely to leave a less-than-stellar first impression. Gruff, no-nonsense, and clearly at her wits end with the undeniably quippy characters in Immortals of Aveum, Zendara appears at first glance to be a woman wholly devoted to her duties with little time or patience for interpersonal relationships. But, as players learn more about the often-prickly princess, it soon becomes clear that Zendara is one of the most intriguing and entertaining characters in Ascendant Studios’ fantasy shooter.

Towering head and shoulders above the other members of the Order of Immortals, Zendara’s prowess with Immortals of Aveum’s red magic combined with her impressive physical strength make her an intimidating presence on the battlefield. Serving as field commander for protagonist Jak, the Immortals’ newest and most arguably ill-prepared member, Zendara is a constant presence throughout the game and a frequent thorn in Jak’s side. Over the course of a narrative filled with unexpected twists and magical machinations, though, Zendara’s fierce loyalty to her teammates and unwavering moral compass make her one of Immortals of Aveum’s standout characters.

Zendara’s Loyalty to Her Fellow Immortals is UnparalleledZendara, Jak, and Devyn from an Immortals of Aveum cutscene

Although the steady stream of quippy comebacks from teammates Devyn and Jak clearly gets under the skin of the typically stoic Zendara at points during Immortals of Aveum, her character is unfailingly loyal to her fellow Immortals. Throughout the game Zendara is fiercely protective of the other Immortals, displaying an unwavering commitment to fighting for her allies and their cause even in the face of overwhelming odds. Even as she frequently butts heads with fledgling Tri-Arch Magus Jak, Zendara begrudgingly sets aside her frustrations with the plucky protagonist whenever his plans look likely to help the Immortals’ efforts to win the Everwar.

These heated verbal exchanges between the pair also provide some of Immortals of Aveum’s most entertaining conversations, with the wisecracking Jak often becoming the target of Zendara’s surprisingly cutting wit. This is thanks in large part to Zendara’s excellent portrayal by actress Lily Cowles, who delivers the warrior princess’ typically no-nonsense lines with just the right amount of dry humor and heart sprinkled on top. Zendara’s potent blend of heroism and heart comes into even sharper focus in the game’s second half when the character is faced with a choice that could affect the outcome of the Everwar.

A Willingness To Do What’s Right Reveals Where’s Zendara’s True Strength Lies

Cinematic shot of Zendara, Thaddius, Kirkan, and Selko from Immortals of Aveum

It’s only as players near the end of Immortals of Aveum’s story that Zendara’s true strength of character and unflinching dedication to what’s right genuinely become evident. With Jak having restored the magical abilities of Aveum’s Magni after they were unceremoniously stripped by antagonist Sandrakk, the Immortals’ General Kirkan enters an alliance with the dark sorcerer to take down the Pentacade. The source of all magic in Aveum, the Pentacade is targeted by Sandrakk and Kirkan in an effort to stop the corruption set to destroy the world.

Knowing that this plan will bring about the destruction of Aveum, Jak pleads with Zendara to refuse Kirkan’s orders and work with him and the mysterious Aelori race to bring balance back to the world of Immortals of Aveum. Despite her lifelong loyalty to the Order of Immortals, Zendara turns her back on Kirkan’s murderous mission and commits her army to helping Jak take down Sandrakk once and for all. Though this morally justified but mutinous act goes against her oaths to the Immortals, it clearly shows how Zendara’s dedication to doing the right thing supersedes all other commitments regardless of the consequences.

With her distinctive look and undeniably intimidating physicality, Zendara instantly steals the scene whenever she’s on-screen. But it’s the warrior princess’ equally massive heart and dedication to do what’s right in the face of uncertainty that truly makes her one of Immortals of Aveum’s best characters.

Immortals of Aveum is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
