Immortals of Aveum is a shooter, but instead of bullets, players shoot magic. The main character, Jak, is a mage, or specifically an Immortal Magnus, who can harness the borrow of three types of magic using special gauntlets called Sigils. There is Blue, Red, and Green magic which all fall into different categories of power.

Players can equip different Sigils for the three types of magic much like weapons in other RPGs. They will offer special bonuses, and change basic stats such as attack power, fire rate, and ammo capacity. Stat configurations aside, there are basically nine types of Sigils that can be equipped to alter how the magic in Immortals of Aveum is fired. Time to rank them all out like weapons in a shooter.

9 Javelin

Kleylish Javelin in Immortals of Aveum

Javelin will deal a massive amount of damage to enemies but there is a cost. This Blue Magic spell will literally create a glowing javelin in the palm of the protagonist, Jak, and can help make players feel like a Greek hero. Creating and showing this magical javelin is often unwieldy though as it often doesn’t fly off accurately.

The attack is high, like in the case of the Kleylish Javelin Sigil, but the low ammo, low fire rate, and clunky aiming mechanics make it a low-tier magical attack in Immortals of Aveum.

8 Fragfire

Atava in Immortals of Aveum

Fragfire is a Red Magic spell and is often technically the most powerful of the three. However, the low ammo count makes it less attractive than lower-charged Red Magic spells like Breachfire.

Players can think of Fragfire as sort of like the missile launcher of the game except that it doesn’t have as good a range. It is a wide-casting red fireball and the Legendary Sigil, Atava, has an attack power of 500 just to give players an example of how wild this spell can get.

7 Burstfire

Pentadi Burstfire in Immortals of Aveum

There are not a lot of differences seemingly between Fragfire and Burstfire. Both are fire-based, cause big damage, and have low ranges. Burstfire is slightly better though because the area of effect is wider at close range.

Pentadi Burstfire is an Epic example of a Sigil that heats up damage more in the area and has a chance to break through Shield spells faster too. Players can think of Burstfire spells like grenades in other shooters like Call of Duty except that it can’t damage Jak on recoil.

6 Arclight

Serene Arclight in Immortals of Aveum

Arclight is a Blue Magic spell that fires a beam it enemies. The concentrated beam is like Cyclop’s in the X-Men franchise except Immortals of Aveum's version is blue instead of red. It’s very close to the first spell players will get in the game, Strikebolt, but because the beam is elongated, it may be hard to be as accurate with the sniping shots.

Typical ammo for Arclight Sigils, such as the Serene Arclight, will have ammo capacity low. The tradeoff is that power is regularly higher than a Strikebolt.

5 Stormshards

The Gale in Immortals of Aveum

Stormshards are the basic form of Green Magic in the game. They are small, green projectiles that apparently have seeking capabilities, but they are minimal at best. The attack sort of resembles the Emerald Splash projectiles that Hierophant Green launches in the Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure series.

The attack power is generally low amongst the other spells, but the tradeoff for Sigils like The Gale is that ammo capacity is high as is the fire rate.

4 Malestrom

Gilded Malestrom in Immortals of Aveum

Maelstrom is one of the coolest spells in the game and it is another Green Magic attack. It surrounds Jak’s hand with a bunch of bullets that resemble the prayer beads that Buddhist Monks wear. Maelstrom is far from a peaceful, monk-like spell though and it is more like a machine gun.

Attack power for Sigils like Gilded Maelstrom ranks among the lowest for Green Magic, but the fast fire rate and excellent ammo capacity can help hold enemy forces back for prolonged periods.

3 Strikebolt

Eruption Strikebolt in Immortals of Aveum

Strikebolt is the first magic that players will unlock in the game. It is a Blue Magic spell and its long thing blue projectile is like a sniper bullet in other shooters. Like most spells in the game, there is no way to zoom in on targets though.

Strikebolt has a good range and it is easy to accurately pinpoint targets on enemies to take them down. Eruption Strikebolt is a good example of a Strikebolt Sigil with its best stat being its high attack power and ability to break through enemy Shield spells.

2 Breachfire

Fist of Oor in Immortals of Aveum

Breachfire is the Red Magic spell that players are going to want to main in Immortals of Aveum. The range is low, so it is more like a physical attack sort of like a Force Push in Star Wars games. It can hit multiple enemies at once, push them back, and create a good defensive wall for Jak during times of intense encounters.

Most Red Magic Sigils in the game have low ammo capacity, but a Sigil like Searing Breachfire gives players six shots before they have to reload which is killer.

1 Seekershards

Radiant Stormshards in Immortals of Aveum

Seekershards are the best attack spell in the game because they offer players good defense. There are two ways to avoid damage in the game with one being the Shield spell and the other being the dodge ability called Blink. Seekershards are what regular Stormshards are advertised as, home-seeking projectiles that go after targets currently.

With Seekershards, players can hide behind walls, launch a few blasts from a Sigil-like Radiant Seekershards, and then duck back to avoid counterattacks. Again, like all Green Magic, power is weak but the other advantages more than make up for that.

Immortals of Aveum was released on August 22, 2023, and is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
