The last few months have been incredibly busy ones in the gaming industry, with gigantic titles like Resident Evil 4 Remake, Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo 4, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor all releasing in the first half of 2023. But with the release of Final Fantasy 16, things are starting to cool down a little, though that's only set to last for about a month, with August heralding in yet another slew of heavy hitters, and Immortals of Aveum could be one of them.

Teased back in December last year during The Game Awards, Immortals of Aveum has received a healthy number of trailers over the last few, ranging from story-focused cinematics to lengthy gameplay demonstrations. But that's not the only thing Immortals of Aveum has going for it. On top of some intense magic gameplay, Immortals of Aveum also has a rich fantasy story, with a pretty star-studded voice cast leading the way.

Set in the titular fantasy world of Aveum, Immortals of Aveum drops players into the middle of a fierce magical world war. A long time ago, Aveum was split into five distinct kingdoms, with a circular chasm in the center separating them. Over time, the five kingdoms have continued to wrestle for power of the magic of Aveum, eventually leading to the demise of three of the kingdoms. Now, just Lucium and Rasharn stand, still fixed in a bloody war for magic.

Immortals of Aveum puts players in the levitating boots of Jak, an elite magical warrior from Lucium known as an Unforeseen, only developing strong magical abilities later in life. Jak is voiced by Darren Barnet, best known for his roles in the Netflix Holiday movie Love Hard, and the Netflix show Never Have I Ever. Darren Barnet is about to star in Sony's Gran Turismo movie, where he plays a fictional version of Jann Mardenborough, a Gran Turismo player turned real-life racer.

After developing his powers, Jak is soon discovered and recruited by Lucium's Grand Magnus Kirkan, who's voiced by Gina Torres. Probably the biggest name on the cast list, Gina Torres has appeared throughout the entertainment industry, in movies, TV shows, and video games. Some of Gina Torres' most iconic roles are as Zoe Washburne in both Firefly and Serenity, and Jessica Pearson in Suits. Torres has also appeared in the Matrix franchise. But the role that most gamers will know Gina Torres for is Destiny's Ikora Rey, a character that's appeared throughout both the first game, its sequel, and all the subsequent expansions.

Along the way, Jak will run into several companions, with one of the most important being Zendara. A descendant of the Kalthus royal family, Zendara has left her life of privilege behind for war, and now acts as Jak's field commander. Zendara is voiced by Lily Cowles, who previously played Helen Park in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and appeared in the horror movie Antebellum. Another of Jak's allies is Devyn, a scholar-turned-warrior. Devyn is voiced by Antonio Aakeel, who appeared in the 2018 Tomb Raider live-action movie.

The Mother and The Orville's Yvonne Senat Jones will play Luna, Call of Duty: Vanguard and Teen Wolf's Steven Brand will play the villainous Sandrakk, Bayonetta 3's Anna Brisbin will play Kenzie, and Modern Warfare's Nick Boraine will play Thaddeus. Charles Halford, who voiced Grodd in Injustice 2 and appeared in Constantine will play Rook, and Westworld's Leonardo Nam appears as Selko. Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, from Devs, will also voice a character, as well as Yellowjackets' Alex Wyndham.

Immortals of Aveum releases on August 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
