EA and Ascendant Studios have announced that the upcoming magic-based first-person shooter, Immortals of Aveum, has been delayed from its July 20 release date to August 22. While this delay amounts to roughly a month, the Immortals of Aveum team will be using the added time to further polish the title for release.

Immortals of Aveum is an exciting new IP from start-up studio Ascendant Studios, partnered with the EA Original Label, and sees players step into the powerful shoes of Jak, a battlemage capable of casting three forms of magic. The world itself is embroiled in the Everwar, where countries fight over control of magic in the world. Game ZXC recently played a few hours of Immortals of Aveum at a preview event, believing the game has the potential to be a dark horse GOTY contender.

Regardless, there is no such thing as too much polish for a video game launch. Ascendant Studios has specifically stated that it will be using this added time to add more PC functionality to the game, as well as prepare it for a smooth launch. In the blog post announcing this delay, Immortals of Aveum director Bret Robbins thanked fans for their reaction and recapped some of the challenges in making this magic FPS. Robbins highlights how Ascendant Studios working through the COVID-19 pandemic, building a new team in the process and working with the power of Unreal Engine 5.1 to push the game to its limits.

Robbins believes that Immortals of Aveum is "something special" and wants to use this slight delay to fulfill the team's vision and continue polishing the title. As far as delays go, a month is nothing in the industry where games are sometimes delayed by several months, if not straight out of a calendar year. Unfortunately, July's video game releases will slightly suffer as a result. The only major remaining titles in July are Telltale's The Expanse, Nintendo's Pikmin 4, and Capcom's Exoprimal. By no means is it a bad month ultimately, as many fans will likely enjoy the small reprieve from big video game launches if these titles aren't their cup of tea, especially ahead of what appears to be an incredibly busy Fall season.

Now, Immortals of Aveum will release alongside other titles such as Atlas Fallen, Armored Core 6, and Baldur's Gate 3's full launch. August will be a solid start to a busy season, as September hosts games like Starfield, October hosts games like Assassin's Creed Mirage and Marvel's Spider-Man 2, November hosts games such as Like a Dragon: Gaiden, and more.

Immortals of Aveum releases on August 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
