Popular YouTuber streamer ICE Poseidon has once again found himself in the midst of a “swatting” controversy in the Los Angeles area. As revealed by ICE Poseidon online, someone called the police on him, claiming he was involved in a robbery.

This isn’t the first time ICE Poseidon has been the victim of swatting. About a month ago, someone called the police on ICE Poseidon and a friend as they were boarding a plane, claiming they had a bomb. The whole experience was captured on video, and resulted in ICE Poseidon’s banning from Twitch.

For those who don’t know, “swatting” is when someone calls in a prank police report that results in SWAT or police swarming in to arrest the person, who's usually innocent of any wrong. Most often, swatting is conducted against livestreamers, whose information is discovered and shared with police.

One of the most well-known acts of swatting was against a gamer known as Kootra, who was swatted about three years ago while playing Counter-Strike. The whole experience was captured and recorded via a live Twitch stream, where police can be seen rushing into the room and holding the gamer at gunpoint.

This juvenile practice isn’t reserved just for livestreamers. A few years ago, Bungie was the target of a prank call, which resulted in police storming the developer's building on a hostage rescue mission.

Naturally, whenever police are able to track the source of swatting calls, those responsible are punished. However, most often the source of the call is never discovered. While some may think the action is just for fun, it can be extremely dangerous, especially considering live weapons are in use during the raids. It seems only a matter of time before someone is severely injured or killed in a swatting episode.

In the latest case of ICE Poseidon swatting, it sounds like he and his friend were taken into custody in Los Angeles, then released when it was discovered they had not actually robbed anyone. That said, some of ICE Poseidon’s critics have claimed he likes the attention, and gives out personal details of his location in the hopes that he will be swatted and gain more viewers. Hopefully that’s not the case, but it’s not a far-fetched idea in the current Internet-fame culture.

There are currently no suspects for who called in the report on ICE Poseidon.
