Schell Games is officially announcing the arrival of I Expect You to Die 2: The Spy and the Liar. The James Bond-esque virtual reality title serves as a direct sequel to the award-winning spy VR puzzle title I Expect You to Die.

In 2016, the original I Expect You to Die came to VR platforms and solidified itself as one of the most immersive and well-designed virtual reality experiences available. Since then, virtual reality has made leaps and bounds in terms of becoming more accessible, being more realistic, and generally a smoother experience.

News of the sequel's launch on current Oculus platforms came during the first Oculus Gaming Showcase, which was held earlier today. In I Expect You to Die 2: The Spy and the Liar, players will return to an immersive world of espionage, immediately following the events of the first game.

After secretly surviving the events of the first title, players will go deep undercover to explore the diabolical intelligence the Agency received regarding Zoraxis’ efforts towards world domination. Players will embark on brand new missions to figure out what the evil entity is up to, use their elite spy skills to retrieve vital intelligence for the Agency, and try their very best not to die mid-mission.

Schell Games CEO Jesse Schell credited the Oculus fanbase as the facilitator for making I Expect You to Die 2. "Our fanbase on Oculus helped us reach incredible milestones with the original title, and our team is looking forward to providing new and returning Secret Agents with an engaging, story-driven experience." This was far from the only title showcased at the Oculus gaming event, with titles like Pistol Whip, Lone Echo 2, and the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy's Edge, which takes place on the Disney parks-integrated planet of Batuu, also making an appearance.

Although the game was technically revealed for PlayStation VR back in January, this is the first official confirmation that I Expect You to Die 2: The Spy and the Liar is coming to Oculus headsets. Beyond the video description and a vague 2021 release date, there aren't too many details as to what the plot will consist of, or what new mechanics and improvements the second game in the series may have. However, given how polished and well-received the first I Expect You to Die was when launching five years ago, it stands to reason that the sequel will add plenty of zany new features.

The announcement of I Expect You to Die 2: The Spy and the Liar should satisfy fans of the original game while amassing plenty of new players as well. While the humorous puzzle-solving will surely appeal to some, other VR gamers might be looking for a bit more intense of an experience. The recently announced VR version of Resident Evil 4 should more than fit the bill.
