While a lot is now known about Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, it turns out there's still room for surprises. A recent trailer makes King Rohan leading from the frontline look like small news.

A new feature was revealed in the latest Nintendo Direct Mini. Part of the Direct showed off an aspect in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity that many players have wondered about: the Divine Beasts. In Breath of the Wild, the four Divine Beasts formed the closest things that players had to many Legend of Zelda games' main dungeons. In Age of Calamity it seems that the Divine Beasts will play a different role, the one they were created for - as giant weapons of war.

In the trailer, the Divine Beasts take to the battlefield against Ganon's forces. What's more, the point of view makes it very clear that players will take control of them. Players will be able to control the Divine Beasts and pilot them against enemies in their full power. There were already plenty of reasons to be excited for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, but this might be one of the biggest yet for fans. Ever since their reveal, players have been interested in piloting these giant mechs, and now that wish will be granted.

What's more, it looks like each Divine Beast plays differently and has a different control perspective. Vah Medoh soars high above the battlefield raining lasers down on battlefield. Vah Naboris charges through a fortified gate. Vah Ruta unleashes homing icicles and a torrent of water. Vah Rudania stomps on foes with fiery feet. Of all the characters players hoped (and still hope) to play in Age of Calamity, many likely never dreamed the Divine Beasts would be available.

The context under which the Divine Beasts are unleashed is still unknown at this time. They could be special attacks or super forms for the Four Champions. They could also be unleashed through special battlefield conditions, or as one-off, hard to obtain items. In any of these cases, they would easily contribute to Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity being bigger than Breath of the Wild.

On the other hand, the context for their use may be very limited. It's entirely possible that each Divine Beast will be usable exactly once in the game's story mode and never again. After all, there are only so many places on Breath of the Wild's Hyrule map that they could go on a full rampage. Only time will tell.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity releases November 20 for Nintendo Switch.
