Yoshihiro Togashi's Hunter X Hunter manga is set to return after a four-year hiatus, Shueisha announced on Tuesday. The manga series went on hiatus in November 2018.Hunter X Hunter will return on October 24 in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine as part of the magazine’s 47th issue of the year. VIZ Media has added earlier chapters of the manga to the English edition of Shonen Jump, and will also simulpub new chapters starting October 23.RELATED: The Plan in Place to Ensure Hunter x Hunter Gets a Proper EndingThe manga’s 37th tankobon will be released on November 4. Shueisha released a preview of the upcoming volume’s cover alongside news of the series’ return. Chapters 381-390 of the manga have yet to be compiled and released in tankobon format.In May, Togashi teased that the series would return, stating that he had finished working on rough drafts for 10 chapters. This marks the latest return for the series, as it has gone on hiatus multiple times over the years.The manga went on hiatus for 84 weeks from 2006-2007, and went on various hiatuses throughout 2008, leading to a 53-week-long hiatus from 2009-2010. This was followed by a 59-week-long hiatus from 2010-2011, a 35-week-long hiatus in 2012, and a 75-week hiatus from 2013-2014. The series continued to go on hiatus on and off from 2014-2018, totaling 176 weeks of missed time before going on indefinite hiatus in 2019.

Hunter X Hunter debuted in March 1998 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine. The manga has remained one of the publication’s most popular and recognizable series, and has amassed 36 tankobon volumes throughout its run so far.

Studio Pierrot released a 26-minute OVA in July 1998 titled Hunter × Hunter – Jump Super Anime Tour 98 which was directed by Noriyuki Abe, who is best known for his work on Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho. Nippon Animation produced a 62-episode anime adaptation from 1999-2001. The series was directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Ranma ½, Spy × Family), with Nobuaki Kishima (City Hunter, Doraemon) penning the script and Toshihiko Sahashi (Full Metal Panic!, Digimon Adventure:) handling the score.

Madhouse produced a 148-episode adaptation of the manga from 2011-2014. The series was directed by Hiroshi Kōjina (Rainbow, Ushio and Tora), with Atsushi Maekawa (Dragon Ball Z, Lupin III vs. Detective Conan) and Tsutomu Kamishiro (Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V, Bakuman) handling the script and Yoshihisa Hirano (Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger, Death Note) composing the series’ score.

VIZ Media publishes the manga in English and released the 36th tankobon volume in English on August 6, 2019. The 2011 anime series is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
