Kurapika is one of the main characters in Yoshiro Togashi's Hunter x Hunter. He is one of Gon's best friends and plays a significant role in some of the most important arcs in the series, such as the York New City arc and, later, the Succession Contest arc as well.

8 His Debut
Kurapika made his debut quite early in the series. Being one of the main characters, it was expected of him to show up early and he did just that in the manga, making an appearance in the second chapter.
In the Hunter x Hunter TV anime, Kurapika shows up in the very first episode and then goes on to take the Hunter exams with Gon and Leorio. At the exams, the group end up meeting Killua, thus completing the main cast of the show.

Kurapika is certainly among the oldest members of the main cast of Hunter x Hunter. During his debut in the series, he is revealed to be 17 years of age. Later on, as things move closer to the Succession Contest arc, Kurapika is believed to be 19 years old, however, his exact age at that point hasn't been confirmed.

Following the events of the Hunter Exam arc, every member of the main cast of the series ends up learning the power of Nen. Known to dwell within everyone, only a few managed to tap into this ability. Kurapika learns this skill as well and his type of nen is revealed to be Conjuration.
Fans get to see him utilize his abilities during the York New City Arc when he takes on the likes of Uvogin in an enthralling battle and ends up defeating him without much trouble. Without a doubt, he is one of the best Conjurers in the world of Hunter x Hunter.
5 His Specialization Ability
Although Kurapika is primarily a Conjuration type of nen user, he possesses a trick up his sleeves that allows him to use Specialization skills as well. Thanks to his clan's special power, the Scarlet Eyes, Kurapika can tap into Specialization abilities as well.
This was seen during his fight against Uvogin of the Phantom Troupe. When he gains this power, his efficiency in all the nen types increases to 100%, making him a force to be reckoned with. Kurapika is well-rounded in all types of nen thanks to this ability of his.
4 His Clan
Kurapika is a member of the Kurta Clan. In the past, those of the Phantom Troupe were responsible for massacring his entire clan, leaving him as the only survivor. His clan was hunted for their Scarlet Eyes, which are sold at a very high price.
Due to this traumatizing event, Kurapika has always been on the hunt for those with the mark of the spider, that is, the members of the Phantom Troupe. In the York New City arc, he manages to kill one of them, Uvogin after an incredible fight with him.
3 Kurapika As A Hunter
As fans of the series know, there are several types of Hunters in the world of Hunter x Hunter. Kurapika, in particular, is known to be a Blacklist Hunter. These Hunters are known to work similarly to regular bounty hunters. As a Blacklist Hunter, Kurapika hunts down those who are known to be dangerous individuals and are, thus, wanted.
To be able to pull this off, Blacklist Hunters need to be extremely powerful. This just goes to show that Kurapika possesses a tremendously high amount of strength. His job makes him one of the most dangerous Hunters in the entire series.
2 His Role In The Zodiacs
The Zodiacs are some of the most important people in the Hunter Association and act as counselors to the Chairman. After the death of the Chairman of the Hunter Association, Isaac Netero, the Zodiacs were reshuffled quite a bit.
Leorio, one of Gon's best friends, ends up becoming one of their members. Later on, Kurapika also joins the Zodiacs and is codenamed 'Rat.' Kurapika teams up with Mizaistorm and plays a significant role in the Succession Contest arc.

Being the lone survivor of the Kurta Clan, it is easy to see that Kurapika's goal is to avenge the fallen. He aims to take revenge on the members of the Phantom Troupe, especially the ones who were directly involved in the massacre of the Kurta Clan.
