Hunter X Hunter is an iconic manga that debuted way back in 1997 and has, since then, received two anime adaptations, one in 1999, and the second one that helped popularize quite a lot in 2011. The author, Yoshihiro Togashi, is known to be an incredible writer, having constructed a beautiful world in Hunter x Hunter and written some of the most compelling characters in the series.
Evidently, fans have fallen in love with these characters, some of which have gone on to become the best in the medium of the manga itself. Despite being a Shonen series, Hunter x Hunter explores character deaths quite a lot. As such, there are characters that the fans see only for short stints yet end up dying. While some of them are certainly important to progress the plot, quite a lot of the time, these characters haven't reached their full potential and, thus, could've been explored more.
7 Ponzu
Ponzu was a character first introduced during the Hunter Exams arc in chapter 22, or episode 3 in the anime. She is a girl with a small frame whose main feature is her big yellow hat that houses bees. She plays a small role during the 4th Phase of the Hunter exam.
While she fails to pass the exam, she actually reattempts it but gets knocked out alongside everyone else by Killua. Her death eventually comes during the Chimera Ant arc, where she is shot and eaten by a member of Zazan's squad before managing to send out an SOS message.
6 Baise
Baise is a character introduced during the York New City arc in chapter 67 and anime episode 39 where she is seen as one of the bodyguards of the Nostrade family. She possesses an impressive nen ability, 'Instant Lover', that allows her to control anyone she kisses for a certain time period.
She ends up dying during the much-awaited underground auction, after the Phantom Troupe attack the place. As Franklin and Feitan shoot down everyone, she attempts to escape but is hit in the back of the head by Shizuku with her vacuum cleaner.
5 Pakunoda
Pakunoda was a member of the Phantom Troupe and its #9. She debuted during the Yorknew City arc in chapter 71 and anime episode 41. Pakunoda was a tall and slender woman who was actually one of the founding members of the Troupe.
She ends up dying as a result of her loyalty and love for the Troupe. Pakunoda certainly had a lot of potential and, before dying, she is well aware of Kurapika's 'Judgment Chains' that would've killed her if she revealed the truth. Eventually, she does just that when she shoots her memories using her Nen abilities and exposes the truth to the founding members.
4 Gotoh

Gotoh was a character that debuted during the Zoldyck Family arc in chapter 40 or episode 22 of the anime. He acts as a butler to the family and takes special care of Killua as his personal caregiver.
While he has a very cold exterior, he cares a lot about Killua and helps him quite a bit during the 13th Chairman Election arc. There, he ends up fighting Hisoka, who is sent after Killua to retrieve Alluka. He eventually dies when Hisoka slices his throat with his cards. After his death, Kiriko's son poses as Gotoh.
3 Pokkle
Pokkle was a participant in the Hunter Exam and was seen in the arc with the other characters, being one of the few to actually pass. Expectedly, he is introduced during the Hunter Exam arc in chapter 22 and episode 3 of the anime. After getting accepted as a Hunter, he starts developing his nen, just like all the others who pass, and his ability consists of rainbow arrows.
Pokkle was a participant in the Chimera Ant arc, where he was seen out on an expedition alongside Ponzu. While he tries fighting the ants at first, he ends up hiding under a pile of skulls, before being discovered by Neferpitou and is soon lobotomized. After she's done with him, he is killed and fed to the Queen.
2 Shalnark
Shalnark was a member of the Phantom Troupe and its #6, first debuting along with the other Spiders in the Yorknew City arc in chapter 71 of the manga and episode 41 of the anime. Highly intelligent and capable, he had an interesting ability called 'Black Voice,' which allowed him to manipulate and control whoever he sticks with the tip of his antenna.
He ends up dying in the ongoing arc, the Succession Contest arc, after Hisoka's revival. After he and Kortopi allowed Chrollo to borrow their abilities, Hisoka ensured that Chrollo won't be able to use Shalnark's Black Voice anymore, and to do that, he resolved to murder him and hanged his corpse on a swing.
1 Kacho Hui Guo Rou
Kacho was a recent addition to the Hunter X Hunter cast and was only introduced in chapter 349 during the Succession Contest arc. She is the tenth prince of the Kakin empire and the twin sister of Fugetsu Hui Guo Rou.
During the contest, she and her twin sister make an attempt at escaping the ship with the help of their assigned bodyguard, Melody. They quickly realize that leaving can only mean one thing: death. While Fugetsu manages to survive, Kacho dies but her powers manifest, making a copy of Kacho that opens the door for Fugetsu.
