After 25 years, the Hunter x Hunter franchise finally has a fighting game on the way. Titled Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact, it’s being developed by veteran fighting game studio Eighting, and published by Bushiroad Games. Only a short reveal trailer is out for now, but it teases a 3v3 team format. Many fans are concerned about whether this will be a traditional fighting game or an arena fighter like the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm series, but either way, Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact still has a lot of potential.

The only firm details in the teaser trailer are Nen x Impact’s first six playable characters. As expected, Gon Freecss is joined by his friends Killua Zoldyck, Kurapika, and Leorio Paradinight, as well as their recurring enemy, Hisoka Morow. The final fighter, Isaac Netero, is notably wearing his clothes from the later Chimera Ant arc of the 2011 anime. Combined with the presence of a battle-ready Leorio, it's implied that every animated Hunter x Hunter arc is fair game for Nen x Impact’s roster. For a team fighter, that means anywhere from 10 to 30 more characters could join before DLC, though the various groups in Hunter x Hunter’s cast have plenty of highlights to pick from.

Hunter X Hunter: Every Main Character's Age, Height, And Birthday

How much do fans really know about Hunter x Hunter characters? Here is each main character's age, height, and birthday.

Chimera Ants

  • Meruem - King of the Chimera Ants, Meruem was designed as an homage to Dragon Ball Z’s arc villains. His overwhelming strength is expressed plainly compared to Hunter x Hunter’s other Nen powers, but a memorable character arc alongside the Gungi player Komugi made him a fan favorite regardless. Meruem is all-but-confirmed for Nen x Impact’s roster, as Netero’s outfit was specifically from their fight.
  • Neferpitou - Similarly, Neferpitou is Gon’s nemesis in the Chimera Ant arc. As Meruem’s first Royal Guard, Pitou is inhumanly quick and strong, but her true power may lie in how her Doctor Blythe ability could puppet her fallen teammates.
  • Shaiapouf - The second of the Royal Guards is Shaiapouf. Floating gracefully on butterfly wings, Pouf sports a broad range of Nen powers and control of his body through Beelzebub, and will likely take a high-mobility zoner role in Nen x Impact.
  • Menthuthuyoupi - Commonly known as Youpi, the third and final Royal Guard is by far the strongest. Based mostly on one of Hunter x Hunter’s Magical Beasts, the shapeshifting Youpi should be able to recreate one of the toughest Chimera Ant fights with screen-filling attacks.

These Hunter x Hunter characters stand among the most underrated ones.

Phantom Troupe

Phantom Troupe in Hunter x Hunter
  • Chrollo Lucilfer - As the leader of Hunter x Hunter’s infamous Phantom Troupe, Chrollo is a priority inclusion for Nen x Impact. His Skill Hunter and Double Face powers give Chrollo access to an enormous pool of stolen Nen abilities from Hunter x Hunter's anime and manga eras, allowing him to fit any fighting game archetype.
  • Feitan Portor - As Chrollo’s right-hand man, Feitan would be a unique fighter, and being one of Hunter x Hunter’s few swordsmen is just the start. Despite the Rising Sun variant of his Pain Packer armor being the only one introduced, it’s more than enough to justify a risky counter-offensive style of play.
  • Uvogin - While Uvogin, the strongest physical member of the Phantom Troupe, expectedly uses Nen to augment his strength, he also uses it to give his berserker fighting style some surprising range. Uvogin’s fight against Kurapika served as the Yorknew City arc’s climax, potentially landing him a slot in Nen x Impact.
  • Illumi Zoldyck - A Hunter x Hunter adaptation isn't complete without Killua’s assassin family, and Illumi serves as a fitting representative. While his limits are unknown, Illumi has spent plenty of time demonstrating what his various needles can do to himself and others.

Greed Island

  • Biscuit Krueger - Introduced as Gon and Killua’s advanced Nen teacher, Biscuit quickly became a recurring member of Hunter x Hunter’s cast. Considering her DLC appearance in Jump Force, players should expect to see Biscuit’s many Nen techniques and true muscular form in Nen x Impact.
  • Genthru - Also known as the Bomber, the serial killer Genthru is Gon’s final obstacle on Greed Island. His Little Flower explosions are dangerous enough, but planting a Countdown bomb on his opponents could be his game plan in Nen x Impact. Genthru could also use Greed Island’s unique spell cards, even if it's just Accompany to teleport.
  • Razor - Serving as one of Greed Island’s Game Masters, Razor challenges teams of fighters to deadly games of dodgeball. As one of Hunter x Hunter’s most memorable side characters, Razor and his team of Nen beasts could play an unusual “power zoner” position in Nen x Impact.

Extermination Team

Chimera Ant Arc
  • Kite - Mentored by Gon’s father Ging, the powerful Hunter Kite will likely feature in Hunter x Hunter's fighting game thanks to his importance in the plot. Kite’s Crazy Slots ability could randomly decide his moveset, making him a versatile and unpredictable threat to both his player and their opponent.
  • Morel Mackernasey - One of the senior Hunters leading the Chimera Ant Extermination Team beside Knov and Netero, Morel fights the most out of the three, and his Deep Purple smoke manipulation has nearly limitless uses. Combined with the space-restricting Smoky Jail, Morel is another character inviting an experimental moveset.
  • Knuckle Bine - “Experimental” describes most Hunters introduced in the Chimera Ant arc, and nowhere is this more apparent than Morel’s apprentices Knuckle and Shoot. Knuckle’s Hakoware ability is far more mathematically involved than his delinquent look suggests, and translating it into a fighting game is best left to the studio that designed Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s unorthodox Phoenix Wright.
  • Shoot McMahon - The anxious-yet-determined Shoot has a lot to offer in a fighting game as well, from summoning disembodied hands to flying on said hands. His Hotel Rafflesia could also be used to steal resources or entire attacks from his opponents, making him tricky to fight.
  • Palm Siberia - Knov’s student who is later converted into a Chimera Ant, Palm could use the Black Widow power she gained as an Ant as a mid-battle upgrade. Until then, she could call on other friendly Ants like Ikalgo and Meleoron for special moves. More Chimera Ants will probably come in Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact’s DLC, but gathering the most essential ones in one place should cover the game's bases.
