Hunt: Showdown is a critically acclaimed atmospheric hunting game with a Metascore of 81 on Metacritic. As a bounty hunter in the game, players fight both corrupted, mutated abominations and the other bounty hunters who are none the greater, while trying to kill the bosses and extract with their bounties. The game involves intense combat situations that arise whenever players come near a settlement, a railroad, or even a dense forest.

Aside from hunters waiting for someone not careful enough to cross a clearing, hellhounds that inflict bleeding, immolators who burst into flames when pierced, and armored grunts with barbed wires all around them will most likely provide a near-death-experience to those unprepared. There are not many of them, but for the hunters that do dare to go hunting alone, this whole journey tends to become a trip to hell. Here’s some advice to get out of there alive, and with someone else’s bounty!

10 Wrap The Wounds

The most important thing to do before embarking on a solo hunt into the bayou is to ensure that hunters have all the necessary equipment to help them stay alive during and after a conflict. The most vital ones to include are healing equipment that makes their wounds heal instantly or by time goes by. Players are obliged to bring at least one First Aid Kit with them if they want to leave the bayou alive and well.

Additionally, it is advised to bring a vitality shot, and a stamina shot to enhance their performance. These syringes are not that effective in the beginning, but once the better versions are unlocked, they tend to change the course of a fight.

9 Flies, Flames, And Wires

Another great addition to players’ loadouts is the throwables, but the most emphasis should be put on explosives, hive bombs, fire grenades, and concertina bombs. These four items are not only for casting them to hunters’ heads but also do a great job of creating difficult terrain, helping maintain secure positions, and every once in a while, just making a scene.

The most favored one is most probably concertina bombs. Being a throwable version of concertina trip mines, these fiendish devices release a bundle of barbed wires entangling anything that tries to go through and inflict bleeding.

8 Versatility

In addition to throwables, main and secondary weapons, solo hunters have to include both a piercing and a blunt melee weapon in their loadout. These weapons ensure that hunters have the exact damage type needed for each enemy, be it an immolator that requires blunt weapons, or an armored that requires a piercing weapon.

Provided that solo hunters have a spare melee weapon, they can use it to charge the enemy and finish them with a final blow when out of ammo.

7 Plan Before Acting

Teams of hunters have the upper hand when it comes to finding clues and fighting bosses, that’s why solo hunters will have to plan their moves in accordance with their positions on the map. Although it is hard to find all the clues before someone else does, it is still possible to find the boss lair on the first clue. With this in mind, players should decide whether to find the boss lair and kill the boss alone.

Another strategy, maybe a better one, is to kill the bounty hunters carrying the tokens and take them. This strategy can be executed in several different ways, although finding the most probable roads to the extraction points from the boss lair and setting up an ambush is the most successful one.

6 Lock And Load

A solo hunter will need to make up for the lack of a teammate by having weapons that are effective in at least short and medium range if not long range as well. If the time of the hunt is during the night when sight is reduced, however, a shotgun and a decent revolver will make a marvelous duo.

On the other hand, hunters will need to take their ammunition into account when approaching danger, as most shotguns and powerful revolvers run low on ammo pretty early in the match.

5 Do Not Lose Temper

Despite the fact that it is quite easy to lose focus and get anxious in fights, those who prevail victoriously are the ones that keep calm and control their environment. Solo hunters will be subject to many distractions, footsteps from different directions and grunts are the most common ones.

It is advised that if a hunter thinks a fight will be made soon, they should clear the area quietly and be sure that no hound or meathead will be left between them and their target.

4 Be Patient

Patience is the most important requirement in hunting that makes a hunter extract in one piece with a token in their hands. Either when setting up an ambush and waiting for their prey, or when beginning a boss fight, a hunter has to have patience and not act out of boredom.

The hunters need to consider the time left for the mission as well as the position of bounty tokens, and their carriers if there are any. This will conclude in a move that best suits a hunter’s favor and fund their upcoming hunts.

3 Go For The Body

A shotgun blast to the body in short range will decimate any target, that’s why hunters should prioritize aiming for the body which is also an easier option than the head. Also, when a hunter runs out of ammo in a close firefight, it is better to be rushed on than to rush.

Aim for the probable way of the enemy, reload or switch to melee and wait for the perfect shot. This will give hunters the advantage of predicting the location of the enemy by listening to footsteps. Be careful, however, as the enemy has the element of surprise.

2 Special Ammunition

Many special ammunition for rifles such as incendiary are mostly worse than ordinary ammo, but they can be selected as spare ammo and could be used to interact with the environment, such as setting off traps, blowing open doors, and igniting an oil puddle.

Poison ammunition, on the other hand, is an exception in this case as it prevents the target to heal themselves if successfully hit in any part of the body. However, the case is different in higher MMR-rated games as players will likely carry an antidote, negating the effect of the special round.

1 Mind The Economy

Hunt: Showdown Mission Summary

Hunters should pay attention to their budget and prepare to hunt accordingly. Players can always choose a free hunter after one dies, and proceed to the mission with little change in their loadouts.

This can help players make a decent amount of money before being able to buy all the equipment and having the ideal loadout. Hunters can also buy multipurpose tools such as a knuckle knife to save money, rather than buy a separate knife and a duster.

Hunt: Showdown is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
