Hunt: Showdown is a first-person monster hunting game that has been steadily gaining popularity since its 2019 launch, garnering a loyal and passionate fanbase. Last year it even received the Best Online Experience Award at The Game Awards. In another exciting milestone for the thrilling game, it has been announced that it will be adapted into a live-action series in a collaboration between studio Crytek and new streamer Binge.

Binge is an upcoming streaming platform, primarily focussing on creating video game-inspired content. Their collaboration with Crytek is the latest in a series of much-anticipated video game to live-action TV adaptations as the new streamer gears up for its 2022 launch. Binge has already announced a team-up with Ubisoft for a live-action series adaptation of Nightdive Studios’ System Shock and Driver, the 1999 PlayStation classic.

Crytek announced Binge's Allan Ungar and Vince Taken will produce Hunt: Showdown, with Crytek’s Avni Yerli, Faruk Yerli, and Pascal Tonecker executive producing. The founder and joint CEO of Crytek, Yerli, said, “We have always known that Hunt: Showdown would look great as a live-action series […] The world is dark, gritty, and immersive, and there is so much potential for many great stories to be told.” Binge’s Ungar added that he is anticipating the collaboration to be the first of many between the new streamer and the gaming studio. There has been no announcement yet of a release window for the new show, but it will be exclusively streaming on Binge’s platform when the latter launches.

Hunt: Showdown is a game that deftly combines horror with Battle Royale-style competitive gaming in a dark world filled with threats, so it is sure to be ripe with content for an adaptation. But while it's setting in the Louisiana Bayou of 1895, where nightmarish monsters have ravaged the land, provides an exciting visual experience, there is not much in the way of plot or story. But instead of this being seen as perhaps a limitation or a hurdle, it could actually provide a springboard for some creative storytelling without the burden of a fanbase loyal to particular characters and their storylines. It provides a clean slate to break the video game adaptation curse that some have been observing.

This new announcement is just another in an increasingly-seen trend of video game adaptations. Some of the most anticipated adaptations are the recently-wrapped HBO adaptation of The Last Of Us and the movie version of Uncharted.

In a very crowded streaming landscape, newcomer Binge is already making itself heard with its announcements, exciting fans who are currently missing a video-game-inspired streaming platform with high-quality content. Binge is also teaming up with YouTube gamer El Rubius on his upcoming series Rubius Checkpoint. Keep a close eye on Binge's Twitter page for more upcoming announcements that are sure to come in the lead-up to its 2022 launch.

The upcoming Hunt: Showdown adaptation is currently in development. The streaming platform Binge will arrive in 2022.
