The Witcher 3allows players to upgrade weapons and armor, but many do not know they can do the same for the Witcher’s trusty horse, Roach. Several horse upgrades and equipment for Roach largely go unnoticed, but not anymore.

In The Witcher 3, Geralt can take significant damage if he touches poison gas. Thankfully, there are ways to get rid of it.

Roach has four different horse upgrades that are worth checking out, such as Trophies, Saddlebags, Saddles, and Blinders. Keeping this in mind, this guide will illustrate how players can upgrade horses in The Witcher 3, along with other useful information.

The horse upgrades available for Roach increase stamina, offer valuable passives and buffs, increase the weight limit, and reduce fear levels.

Blinders

While in combat, Geralt will need Roach to remain calm. When approaching enemies or monsters, Roach will begin to panic, and if her fear levels increase, it will be difficult to fight or race in the game. For this reason, Blinders are important since they reduce fear levels.

Several Blinders are easy to find, purchase, and craft, but the best ones, like the Undvik horse blinders, can reduce fear levels by 60 points. There is also the option to consume a Nekker Warrior decoction to eliminate the fear mechanic, at least for a while.

Saddles

Like Geralt, Roach has a stamina meter, too. If her stamina meter is low, she will not be able to sprint, which can be a problem during races or while escaping monsters. To increase stamina, get a good saddle.

While there are many saddles to choose from, the Caparison of Lament is hands down the best out of the lot, increasing stamina by 100 points. Moreover, it has a passive bonus that causes enemies to dismount from their mounts if they get too close to Roach.

The Caparison of Lament is only available via the Hearts of Stone DLC after letting Gaunter O’Dimm take Olgierd’s soul for the bad ending. Then, choose “To be as swift as the wind” from the available rewards.

Saddlebags

To carry more items, get a good Saddlebag. The Beauclair Saddlebags are the best you can find, increasing the total weight limit by 110.

The Beauclair Saddlebags are only available via the Blood and Wine DLC.

Trophies

After killing rare monsters, Geralt will get trophies. Trophies are kills that can be equipped on Roach for different buffs. For instance, the “King of Swineherd’s Crown” will increase gold from different sources by 15%.
