Players can take hostages in Payday 3 by following these simple steps:

  1. Pick a hostage and push them so that they can fall to the ground. Players can also shout at hostages while pointing a gun at them to make them fall to the ground.
  2. When the hostage is in a curled-up position, move towards them.
  3. The player will get two options: tell the hostage to get up and use them as a human shield or tie their hands.

Players can tie up hostages by pressing the X button on an Xbox controller, the Square button on a PlayStation controller, or the F key on a keyboard.

Once a hostage is tied up, players have the option to use them as a human shield or trade them to delay an incoming assault. After trading a hostage or two with the authorities, the player will benefit from the exchange.

It is worth noting that there will come a time when trading hostages will delay an incoming assault. Players will not be able to trade their remaining hostages to get more time. Players must also be wary of the police as they will not hesitate to fire at will.

Players must be careful that their hostages don’t run off while trading hostages.

If the player kills a hostage, they will need to deal with the following repercussions:

  • For every hostage that is killed, the player will lose $29,300.
  • Shooting or killing a hostage will alert the security personnel outside during a heist. The timer for delaying an assault will decrease, eventually resulting in a shootout.

Payday 3 is available on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PlayStation 5.
