In Persona 4, Igor would take pity on you if you failed to save a kidnapping victim by rewinding time to a few days before the deadline. The original Persona 3 was much less forgiving: if you weren't prepared for a full moon, you'd have to hope you had a save far back enough to get some practice time in Tartarus. Persona 3 Reload handles things differently.

Persona 3 Reload features a new game mechanic called Rewind. At any point in the game (or at least any point when you can access the menu), you can Rewind time to a free period and try to do something different. But where can you find this new function, and how much time can it reverse?

Where to Find the Rewind Command

Persona 3 Reload Rewind Menu

First, bring up the in-game menu and choose "System." Rewind is one of the options you can choose from, listed just below "Load Data" and "Save Data."

While there are times when you can't save your game, the option to Rewind should always be available. Even if you're in the middle of Tartarus or fighting your way through a full-moon event, you can reverse the flow of time and return to a free period earlier in the game.

However, something you must keep in mind is that the Rewind is a one-way trip. You can save your game during the free period you return to, but if you can't save in the present, you'll lose your progress. That may be a good thing depending on what's happened, but it's not a decision you can take back.

How Far Back Can You Rewind?

Persona 3 Reload Rewind Options

Rewind lets you return to the five most recent free periods in the game. This includes Daytime, After School, and Evening periods when you were free to choose how to spend your time. This skips past cutscene days, full-moon events, exams, school trips, and other days when your choices are limited.

For instance, if you choose Rewind on 5/23, the day after the first midterm exams, you can skip back to 5/17 or 5/16, the weekend before the exams. However, you can't go back to the evening of 5/15 because the game counts the free period you're currently in. On the bright side, this means you can reset the day after doing something like spending all your money on full-price medicine because you forgot it wasn't Saturday.

After you Rewind, you can Rewind again to go back to an earlier period. However, the game only keeps five autosaves, and so the earliest free period listed is the limit. You can't Rewind two and a half days, then Rewind another two days and keep going to reach the start of the game. On 5/9 you can reverse time to 5/8, 5/7, or 5/6, but never any earlier. The only way to go back any further is by using a manual save.

You also can't use Rewind to go back and then go forward again. Once you choose a time period, the game removes the later free periods from the Rewind menu. The only direction you can go is back.
