Zombies mode is back and packs-a-punch. With the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, the beloved game mode has returned with new dynamic gameplay and features. Fans were deprived of the opportunity to play Zombies in MW2, but it's back with an even better and improved playstyle this time.

There are various things players can do in MW3: Zombies to ensure they have a great time playing this demon-filled game mode. Various locations and portals are available to visit. One is the Dark Aether Rift, which is just an amazing POI to see. Here is how players can access this new reality by following simple steps.

How to Open The Dark Aether Rift

Here are all the steps players need to take to open the Dark Aether Rift.

Bad Signal Story Mission

To enter the Dark Aether Rift, players must complete Bad Signal, an Act 4 mission in Zombies. This mission lets players visit the Dark Aether for a little while. Players can only enter the rift again if they have taken all the steps required to re-enter it.

Finding All Key Items

Once players have finished the Bad Signal mission, they must collect four key items to re-enter the Dark Aether Rift. They must place all the key items on their pedestals in front of the Dark Aether Rift entrance. Here are all the key items required to open the portal:

Locked Diary
Pill Bottle
Surveillance Camera
Dog Collar

How to Find The Key Items

Here is how players can obtain all the Key Items needed to open the Dark Aether portal:

Locked Diary

The Locked Diary is a reward players can obtain by completing the Act 4 mission, Bad Signal.

Pill Bottle

Pill Bottle can be obtained by shooting a cyst while having equipped a Brain Rot Ammo mod.

Surveillance Camera

Players need to destroy a Harvester Orb using a Dead Wire Ammo Mod to get the Surveillance Camera.

Dog Collar

The Dog Collar can be obtained by placing a chunk of Flesh and Molotov in a Dog House. Once a Hellhound comes out and dies off of it, players will be rewarded with the Dog Collar.

Upgrading the Keys

Once the key items have been obtained, players need to upgrade them to Gold Rarity. They can be upgraded by visiting an Aether Tear while holding the Key and parachuting towards the Gold Rift high in the sky.

Once everything has been set into motion, a new contract with a purple hue will appear. Completing that will upgrade the Key to its Gold level.

Opening The Portal

Players need Sigils to activate the Dark Aether Rift. The first Sigil is obtained after entering the Dark Aether for the first time. The others can be retrieved by completing contracts in the Red Zone.

Players need to place the Sigil on the pillar of the portal entrance. This will initiate voting for all the players on the team. After the right amount of “Yes” has been reached, the team will be transported to the Dark Aether Rift.
