There are 36 regular classes in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, as well as 12 character-specific classes and three non-playables. Just like the first Fire Emblem Warriors game, players will be able to level up and change the classes of their units as they progress through the main story. When they first get started, however, Shez's class will be locked to Fluegel, with players needing to power through the prologue before they can start to make changes.

Past that point, changing a unit's class in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is actually pretty straightforward. All players need to do is hop into the "Convoy" menu and then navigate to the required tab. Unlocking new classes to change to is not quite as simple though, as players will need to accrue both experience and items in order to do so. It can be hard work, but, for those looking to get the very best out of their units, the rewards are definitely worthwhile.

How to Change a Unit's Class in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

There are two ways to change a unit's class in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, both of which become available after players have reached chapter 4. Depending on the house they chose, this will either be "The Shadows of Adrestia" (Scarlet Blaze) or "To War!" (Azure Gleam and Golden Wildfire). The first method, as mentioned above, is to open up the "Convoy" menu and then use the Z buttons to cycle over to the "Change Class" sub-menu after selecting a character.

Alternatively, players can choose to switch to a newly unlocked class immediately after unlocking it at the Training Grounds. Certain units are better suited to certain classes (as indicated by the blue arrows next to them), but that doesn't mean that players can't still experiment with some of the other classic Fire Emblem classes that are available in Three Hopes. As well as unlocking new abilities for their units, regularly switching a unit's class can also help to keep the combat feeling fresh.

How to Unlock New Classes in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes

In order to unlock a new class for a unit, players will first need to master the one which precedes it. They can do this by using the class in battle or by selecting the "Train" option at the Training Grounds. Initially, they'll only be able to train six units at a time, though this number will gradually increase as the facility is upgraded. High morale can lead to greater gains when using either method, so it may be worth treating the unit to a nice gift or a slap-up meal beforehand.

Once a class has been mastered, players can go to the "Acquire Class" menu at the Training Grounds to unlock its next form. Each new class will require a seal, which players can find in battle or buy from merchants. Initially, they'll only be able to unlock Intermediate level classes, with Advanced and Master classes only becoming available once players have upgraded the Training Grounds to the required level. Sadly, the ability to do so is once again tied to main story progression; presumably to ensure that players don't become too OP too quickly.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is available now on Nintendo Switch.
