Thanks to Pokemon Scarlet & Violet's Indigo Disk DLC, you can catch the starter Pokemon from previous generations. From the Johto region enters Totodile, the Water-type starter Pokemon of Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal/HeartGold/SoulSilver. However, you'll need to complete a few steps before Totodile starts spawning at Blueberry Academy/Terarium.

You're more than likely to have a Water-type Pokemon in your party by the time you start Indigo Disk. If not, you should consider catching and evolving Totodile. As a Feraligatr, it's not the fastest Pokemon out there, but its base Attack and Defense make it a good battler if it's trained properly. If you don't want to make room for the Totodile-line in your main team, then you'll still need to catch them to unlock their Dex entries for the Blueberry Pokedex.

Where to Find Totodile in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet

Savanna Biome

Before Totodile can start appearing in Terarium, you'll need to contribute 3000 BP to the Terarium Club. This can be done by accessing the computer in the League Club. However, you'll want to send the required BP to the Savanna Biome of the Terarium Club if you're trying to get Totodile.

Once you've contributed 3000 BP, you can find Totodile swimming in the lakes in the Savanna Biome. There's one lake that's right near the border separating the Savanna and Coastal Biomes.

BP, Blueberry Points, can only be farmed by completing Blueberry Quests (BBQ). Since you'll need 3000 BP, you'll be completing a lot of sidequests while you explore Terarium. Blueberry Quests unlock after you've completed your first class/before you reunite with Carmine in Terarium. You'll unlock the League Club after you defeat Carmine in a Pokemon battle at the Central Plaza, so make sure you've completed "The Way Home" main quest.

How to Trade & Transfer

3000 BP is a lot of currency, and if you're someone who'd rather put BP towards something else, then you might be better off getting Totodile another way. Thanks to Pokemon HOME compatibility, you can transfer Totodile from another compatible game (or Pokemon GO). You can also trade with someone online to get Totodile.

Totodile can be obtained in the following games:

  • Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
  • Pokemon GO

You can find Totodile in the Grand Underground of Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl after you've obtained the National Dex. If you're hunting for Totodile in Pokemon GO, you'll occasionally see Totodile in the wild. Its appearance rate may be influenced by your home country.

To transfer, you'll need to make sure the Totodile is in the Basic Box/storage of Pokemon HOME.

  1. To get Totodile into the Basic Box, make sure it's placed in a PC Box in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl. Save your game and exit.
  2. Then, open Pokemon HOME on the Switch and access BDSP to move it from the PC Box to the Basic Box.
  3. Once Totodile is in the Basic Box, you can move it to Scarlet/Violet while you're still in HOME.

* If you're transferring from Pokemon GO, you'll want to select the GO icon on HOME's main screen.

To trade, you'll need a Nintendo Online Membership to use Scarlet/Violet's wireless features. This will allow you to access the Union Circle, and thus allow you to Link Trade (through the Poke Portal) with someone else.

How to Evolve Totodile and Croconaw into Feraligatr

What Level Does Totodile Evolve?

pokemon scarlet violet indigo disk totodile

Totodile evolves into Croconaw at level 18. Croconaw evolves into Feraligatr when it reaches level 30. If you're catching the wild Totodile in Terarium, then their level will be somewhere in the 50s-60s range. If that's the case, you'll only need to level up Totodile once to evolve it into Croconaw, then once more to evolve it into Feraligatr.

Feraligatr works better as a physical attacker since its base Attack stat is greater than its Special Attack stat. Thus, it'll run physical moves like Liquidation better than special moves such as Surf. A recommended Nature for a Feraligatr is Adamant (+Attk, -Sp.Attk) or Jolly (+Spd, -Sp.Attk). The latter Nature is good for Feraligatr because it enhances Feraligatr's already-mediocre Speed in exchange for lower Special Attack growth.
