Skull and Bones: How to Get Monstrous Tooth

A Monstrous Tooth is not an easy item to acquire in Skull and Bones, but it isn't impossible with the right strategy.

While finding the ghost ship is the first step, beating it is another story, as one of the lengthiest battle encounters on the seas. However, once you've tracked it down, it's worth gathering a few tips and tricks ahead of the battle to stand the best chance of defeating it and reaping its bountiful, well-earned rewards.

How to Find the Ghost Ship in Skull And Bones

There are a couple of different ways to find the ghost ship in Skull and Bones:

  • Head to an outpost southeast of Saint-Anne called The Oubliette by Port l'Hermine in the Red Isle, as pictured above. Dock at the outpost and speak with The Mysterious Rogue to pick up the Oceans Apart Contract. This enables the Oceans Apart marker to appear on the map, usually just east of The Oubliette, the location of the mysterious ghost ship vessel named Maangodin.
  • Alternatively, there is a chance for the Spectral Sightings rumor to appear on the map. This marker tends to appear near The Oubliette but could appear elsewhere on the map. It also only sticks around for so long, making it slightly less reliable than the first option.

While rumors in the contract say the ghost ship only appears at night, it is still possible to find it during the daytime. However, as you approach the ship, the nearby environment darkens and chills within its surrounding yellow zone on the map, giving a nighttime effect. You can use your spyglass to spot the Maangodin from a safe distance.

How to Beat the Maangodin Ghost Ship in Skull And Bones

skull and bones ghost ship maangodin combat

The Maangodin is a challenging, high-level ship to beat with a sizeable chunk of health, so it's a battle not to be taken lightly. If you're only checking out the ghost ship for a closer look, be prepared to sail away fast with plenty of food on hand to regain stamina. Once the Maangodin spots you, it will give chase and fire a stream of blue flare-like explosives or flamethrower attacks that are devastating on impact, so avoid getting in front of it as much as possible.

Ghost Ship Battle Tips And Strategies

To beat the Maangodin, preparation for a long fight is critical. Bring plenty of ammunition and Repair Kits to repair your ship. It's also worth spending some time investing in Skull and Bones' best weapons to shoot from a distance when needed and inflict high damage up close, plus some decent armor to defend against its high-powered attacks.

As a level eight ship, it's best to try and reach a similar level before attempting the fight to avoid near-instant annihilation. During combat, you'll also want to target the Maangodin's red, skull-shaped weak points, mainly those located near the front and back of a ship, as it's immune to shots inflicted elsewhere. Successfully hitting these weak spots inflicts damage and results in a high-pitched, ghost-like scream. It's also best to sail closer to reach these weak points, plus engage in highly effective crew attacks like firing muskets or throwing firebombs. You should also watch out for the ship disappearing and reappearing.

Your choice of ship for this fight can also be crucial, and using ships available at higher Infamy Ranks like Skull and Bones' Padewakang can help even the odds. If all else fails, you can also try calling for help from other pirates or attempting the battle with friends.

Ghost Ship Rewards

On beating the Maangodin, it can drop various types of loot as rewards:

  • Tarnished Ring - if completing the Oceans Apart contract.
  • Blue Specter ship weapon blueprint - accessible at Kingpin I Infamy rank or purchasable from the Mysterious Rogue at The Oubliette for 50 Ethereal Ashes. To craft the Blue Specter, you'll also need 25 Ethereal Ashes, 5 Vengeful Essence, 2 Precision Drilling Bits, 2 Rubber, Wyrm's Breath, and 4620 silver.
  • Ethereal Ashes - a specialized type of currency like Monstrous Tooth used to buy items from certain vendors, such as the Mysterious Rogue.
  • Mysterious Chest - open it to find more goodies
  • Silver Chest - usually contains a sizeable amount of silver.
  • Precision Drilling Bits
  • Screw Mechanisms - a specialized crafting material used for weapons and armor.
  • Repair and Restoration Kits - it's always handy to have more repair supplies to hand to repair damage and return your ship to normal from nasty status effects.
  • Treasure Map

Returning the Tarnished Ring to the Mysterious Rogue as proof of your victory completes the Ocean's Apart contract and rewards you with 3000 silver.
