Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a historical action RPG that tests the player's ability in combat and knowing when to attack and defend against enemies. The difficult combat engine is known to frustrate many who prefer the style of hack-and-slash gameplay, as Kingdom Come: Deliverance puts heavy emphasis on the art of blocking and dodging. If Henry rushes in and starts swinging away carelessly, he'll deplete his stamina quickly and be prone to taking damage from the enemy soldiers. For this reason, patience is the key to victory, and players who can read their opponents' movements and combine quick footwork with excellent combinations will be more successful on the battlefield.

While most action RPG titles require players to quickly press a button to evade an attack, sometimes with a prompt appearing on-screen, Kingdom Come: Deliverance isn't as generous. Instead, players are told early into the playthrough of what is required and then left to their own devices. Neglecting the art of dodging an enemy's attack will leave Henry open to injury and potential blood loss, leading to the loss of his life. While players can also block in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, this defensive mechanic wears down Henry's stamina, which results in him being unable to launch a counter-attack. This guide will go over the most effective way to dodge attacks, and some useful perks to make life easier.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a great game to really lean into roleplaying. These tips can help improve the immersion further.

The Art of Dodging in Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Half Swording against a Cuman warrior in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

In order to effectively dodge an attack in Kingdom Come: Deliverance, players are required to pay attention at all times, and not just to Henry's positioning. Players will either need to move from side to side, or backstep for a chance to dodge an opponent's attack, but timing is essential. Every time an enemy soldier initiates an attack sequence, they will back-swing their weapon before projecting it forward towards Henry. After observing this line of movement a few times, it should be relatively simple to memorize and prepare once the back-swing begins. At this moment, Henry could either move to the left or right, or backstep to avoid the attack before stepping back into place and launching an attack of his own.

The difference between dodging and blocking or parrying is that it doesn't require any stamina to perform it. Players can conserve their energy by mastering the art of dodging, swaying from left to right and evading the slip of the blade before landing a few blows on an enemy, reaching the conclusion of their attempt. This is the most effective way at both saving stamina and health, as Henry can focus on reducing the enemy's health with well-timed strikes and some fancy footwork. Players can get some experience in this aspect of Kingdom Come: Deliverance during the fifth quest of the game, when Henry undergoes training with Captain Bernard.

Mastering Henry's movement and decision-making is not the only way to improve his chances of winning a war, as players can use some of the many available perks in Kingdom Come: Deliverance to improve his chances. Perks are unlocked by leveling Henry up and spending ability points to unlock specific skills. The amount of points received is finite, so players will need to be aware of what they spend it on, and choose wisely based on their style and skill level. Luckily, there are a few perks that can improve Henry's chances at evading attacks, or at the very least make sure his stamina level never dips below dangerous levels. Here are the suggested perks for players who wish to play more on the defensive side.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance - Should You Throw Manure or Not?

Should you throw manure at Deutsh's house in Kingdom Come: Deliverance? Here's what happens when you make either choice.

Light Armor - When not wearing plate armor, it becomes 50% easier to dodge strikes in combat. This perk will require less armor to be worn, which will put Henry at greater risk of suffering an injury, but evading will feel simpler to pull off and avoid taking any damage.

Fast Striker - Attacks cost 30% less Stamina, but cause 20% less injury. Applies only to agility weapons. This is an excellent perk to pair with Light Armor, as it gives Henry more opportunity to land several blows in quick succession without worrying about his energy. They may not hit as hard, but they'll hit often while Henry evades the enemy.

Berserk - When your health falls to a minimum, your Stamina regenerates four times faster. On the occasion that the enemy bests Henry and evading their attacks feels near impossible, Berserk will make Henry's stamina level regenerate at a much faster rate if his health drops to an alarmingly-low rate.

Blood Rush - After beating your first opponent, gain a 50% attack bonus and a 25% boost to Stamina regeneration. This one's for the players who bathe in the blood of their enemies, and could work wonders if paired with Fast Striker and Light Armor, as Henry will be able to connect with multiple, devastating blows.

Perfect Block - Allows you to block with no stamina cost when the green shield icon appears. Strike while you do it to execute a riposte, which can only be defended against with a perfect block. Pulling off either can intimidate less experienced enemies. One of the best perks in the game and recommended for players who have a harder time with the dodging system.
