The lack of ammo in the Commonwealth can put an end to your adventures. Although you can buy and search for ammo, the Contraptions Workshop expansion pack for Fallout 4 offers a self-sufficient solution: Ammunition Plant. With this structure, you will always have enough ammunition and will no longer wonder how to craft ammo in Fallout 4, so let's talk about it in more detail.

Fallout 4: How to Build an Ammunition Plant

Fallout 4 Science

Before we get started, it's worth noting that this structure is available exclusively in the Contraptions Workshop DLC, and the vanilla version of the game doesn't have it. So, if you have already downloaded the DLC, you can start building the factory, but first, you will need to get two perks:

  • Science - Required to be able to build the Ammunition Plant.
  • Gun Nut - Required to be able to create ammo using the Ammunition Plant. The higher the perk level, the more types of ammo you can create.

Once you have done this, you can move on to building a full-fledged factory. This is a rather complicated, time-consuming, and resource-intensive process, so let's talk about each step separately.

Place Ammunition Plant and Power it

The first step is to place the Ammunition Plant itself. Building this structure requires the following resources:

  • Circuitry x2
  • Gears x3
  • Rubber x4
  • Steel x10

Once you have the necessary stuff, here are the steps to take to build an Ammunition Plant in your settlement:

  • Enter Workshop mode.
  • Navigate to the Power category, then Manufacturing, and then Machinery.
  • Locate the Ammunition Plant and place it in your workshop.

Once this is done, also make sure to connect your Ammunition Plant to the electricity source. The Ammunition Plant requires 8 power, so make sure you have it so that the factory runs stably and efficiently. Once this is done, proceed to the next step.

Place Storage and Connect With the Ammunition Plant

For the produced ammunition, you will also need to create a storage space so that it does not stagnate in the factory and accumulate in a specially designated place. Accordingly, you will also need to set up a logistics system from the Ammunition Plant to the storage by placing Conveyor Storage and several Conveyor Belts. Here's how to do it:

  • Enter Workshop mode.
  • In the Power category, navigate to Manufacturing and then Miscellaneous.
  • Select Conveyor Storage and place it near the Ammunition Plant.
  • Use the Conveyor Belts (found under the same menu) to connect the Conveyor Storage to the Ammunition Plant.

Here are the resources you will need to build both of these structures:

Conveyor Storage: Screw x1, Gears x1, Rubber x2, Steel x8.

Conveyor Belts: Gears x4, Rubber x4, Steel x10.

Place Terminal and Connect it to Ammunition Plant

Fallout 4 Terminal

The last step towards completing the building of a full-fledged Ammunition Plant is to build a terminal. This is necessary to control the production, that is, the type of ammunition you create and its quantity. Similar to other structures, you can build a terminal by entering workshop mode. Here, you can choose one of the available terminals that you like. After you build the terminal, also do not forget to connect all the necessary structures with Ammunition Plant. When this is done, you will finally be able to start producing ammunition.

How to Craft Ammo Using Ammunition Plant

When the factory is ready, you will finally be able to start producing ammo. To do this, all you need to do is interact with the terminal and select the type of ammo you want to produce. After that, interact with the Ammunition Plant and place the necessary resources there, after which the production will start, and you will be able to enjoy the automated ammo generation system. Here are the resources needed to craft different types of ammo:
