The power of House Targaryen continues to grow with their allegiances and ties to dragons. In House of the Dragon, audiences have already seen many of the beautiful beasts that hold power over the skies and the people below. Yet, if the source material is anything to go by, there are many more dragons to come in future seasons of House of the Dragon.

There’s much to expect from the next season of the Game of Thrones prequel, and with war ramping up, the promise of dragons battling fiercely in the air and on the ground is sure to be a spectacle. Dragons are a rarity in Game of Thrones, so to see them truly flourish in House of the Dragon is an adored treat, with many dragons waiting to be seen in live-action.

9 Grey Ghost

Dragonstone from House of the Dragon.

Daemon talked of the wild dragons that live on Dragonstone in season one. One of these dragons is Grey Ghost, a name that the smallfolk gave to the wild dragon. This pale grey-white dragon was given its name for both its color and the fact that it is a relatively shy dragon, that tends to avoid men.

Grey Ghost has no quarrels, and spends his time feeding on fish, hunting prey from the waters. Not much is known about Grey Ghost, other than the fact that this dragon is wild, and seems like it would not be the best to tame, nor put up in a good fight.

8 Sheepstealer

Vhagar Flying House Of The Dragon

Another wild dragon on Dragonstone is Sheepstealer, who received his name for the self-evident reason of stealing sheep from the smallfolk. It’s no surprise that this dragon would want sheep, as they do have a love for meat, and lots of people love the taste of lamb, dragons included.

Sheepstealer has a good standing with humans, as he has never harmed a human nor a shepherd; only their sheep, and, occasionally the odd sheepdog. Sheepstealer is not a young dragon and is over 50 years of age. However, due to his wild nature, he has to hunt for himself, leaving him relatively slender and skinny, much like his rider, Nettles.

7 The Cannibal

daemon targaryen with the velaryons at war

The most vicious of the wild dragons was The Cannibal, a dragon that saw no problem in eating other dragons, whether they are alive, dead, young, or old. The Cannibal should be feared by men and dragon riders, as this dragon has no allegiance, even to its own kind. He is the largest of the wild dragons on Dragonstone.

The Cannibal also has black scales and scary green eyes. Not much is known about the Cannibal’s history, but rumors surrounding him suggest that the Cannibal lived on Dragonstone before the Targaryens. It would help to explain why the Cannibal is so very antagonistic to other dragons and dragon riders.

6 Vermithor

Vermithor spewing fire before Daemon from House of the Dragon.

During the time of House of the Dragon, Vermithor is almost a hundred years old. He’s a fearsome dragon and was ridden by King Jaehaerys Targaryen. As one of the oldest living dragons, Vermithor could be a great threat in the Dance of the Dragons. This dragon has no allegiance, but has a beautiful bronze set of scales and tan wings, making him a powerful beauty.

Considering his age, Vermithor may be as vulnerable as he is crucial to the war. He may tire easily and is rather possessive over his lair on Dragonstone. Vermithor hides in one of the smoking caverns in Dragonmount and has refused many riders.

5 Sunfyre

sunfyre, dragon to aegon Targaryen ii

Audiences briefly saw Sunfyre in House of the Dragon. This great beast is the mount of King Aegon Targaryen, the second of his name and son to Alicent Hightower. Aegon’s three-headed Targaryen coat of arms is dedicated to his great dragon. Many claim that Sunfyre is the most beautiful dragon due to his great golden scales, a feature not seen on any dragon but Sunfyre.

His gleaming gold scales are not his best feature, however, as Sunfyre is also noted for having a golden flame. Despite the youth of this dragon, Sunfyre is a large and fierce dragon, and will surely be a great threat to those that oppose King Aegon’s rule.

4 Moondancer

baela targaryen

Baela Targaryen is the rider of Moondancer, a slender and pale green dragon with pearl wing bones. Moondancer will join the side of the Blacks thanks to being the mount of Baela Targaryen and will show her allegiance and prowess thanks to her quickness in the sky and ground, and her nimbleness.

Moondancer is not a large dragon and is barely the size of a warhorse. However, this gives her a great speed that will no doubt come in handy. Moondancer’s nimble form allows her to evade and escape the jaws, claws, and fire of other more powerful dragons.

3 Silverwing

house of the dragon meleys

Silverwing is a dragon that remains unclaimed since the death of her rider, Queen Alysanne Targaryen. Everyone knows how well-bonded dragons are to their riders, and, as such, Silverwing remains free and docile. Despite not having a rider, Silverwing is relatively friendly toward strangers. She also has a bond with Vermithor, in which they coil together.

As a silvery dragon, Silverwing could have a great role in House of the Dragon. Not only is she useful in making Vermithor a tamer, but she could be a great supporter of Rhaenyra Targaryen’s rule once she is claimed.

2 Tessarion

daeron targaryen house of the dragon

A beautiful blue dragon, with a cobalt blue flame, Tessarion would be a great addition to the many dragons joining the expanding roster for House of the Dragon season 2. This dragon has a rider, and that is Prince Daeron Targaryen. Daeron and Tessarion have yet to be seen in House of the Dragon, but the young Prince is the youngest child of Viserys and Alicent.

Tessarion is the youngest dragon on the side of the Greens and is one-third of the size of Vermithor. Despite her small size, she is very nimble in the air and would make for an evasive combatant. She is also referred to as the Blue Queen for her stunning colors.

1 Tyraxes

House of the Dragon Rhaenyra Holding Joffrey

Tyraxes was a dragon that was bound to the young Prince Joffrey Velaryon, the son of Rhaenyra Targaryen. Even though Tyraxes was growing larger every year, he was not yet ready for combat as the Dance of the Dragons began. He could be flown for long distances without aggression or the desire to sleep, but his size was too small for battles.

Tyraxes was born after Joffrey and was placed as a dragon egg into the young Prince’s cradle by King Viserys to show the legitimacy of his birth. At the end of House of the Dragon season 1, Joffrey is too young to ride out on Tyraxes, but with war looming, it may now be time.
