House Of The Dragon was a massive hit among the fans and has already been confirmed for a second season. The show features the story of the Targaryen civil war that was fought between Rhaenyra Targaryen and, her half-brother, Aegon Targaryen for the control of the Seven Kingdoms. Dragons bit the throat of dragons and eventually, the Targaryen dynasty lost the majority of its power and would never recover again from this travesty.

As with Game of Thrones, these characters belong to certain houses that they represent and in House of the Dragon, there are quite a few interesting ones that fans need to keep an eye on.

7 House Strong

House Strong has been very prominent in the very first season of House of the Dragon. So far, it has featured three important characters, all of which have held very interesting positions. This house is from the Riverlands and has sworn fealty to House Tully, as such.

So far, this house has featured characters such as Harwin Strong, who fathered Rhaenyra's children, Larys Strong, who has formed a very peculiar relationship with Queen Alicent, and Lyonel strong, who served as the Hand of King Viserys after Otto was dismissed.

6 House Lannister

House Lannister might not be as prominent as it was during Game Of Thrones in this show, however, they are important nonetheless. A few members of this house featured in the first season of House of the Dragon, those being the twin brothers Tyland and Jason Lannister.

The former is currently the Master of Ships and serves on the Small Council after Corlys Velaryon left this position. The latter is Lord Of Casterly Rock and Warden of the West, making him a very important character in the series.

5 House Baratheon

While not as heavily featured as in Game of Thrones, House Baratheon is important in the story. Towards the end of the first season, fans saw Boros Baratheon, the Lord of Storms End, reject Prince Lucerys Velaryon's offer and side with the Greens instead.

He is currently allied to the Greens of House Targaryen and will most certainly play a bigger role in the coming season of the series. House Baratheon will continue to play bits in the second season of House of the Dragon.

4 House Stark

House Stark has not been featured properly yet in House of the Dragon, however, it will most certainly play a bigger role in the second season. The Starks rule the North and Cregan Stark is the Warden of the North and Lord of Winterfell as well. He's due to make his appearance in the second season of House of the Dragon and play a very important role from there onwards.

Towards the end of the first season, Prince Jaecerys was sent to Winterfell to get the Starks on the side of the Blacks. Unlike his brother, he won't be met with any unfortunate incident and, as such, the Starks will be allied with the Blacks going forward.

3 House Hightower

House Hightower of Old Town has been incredibly important in House of the Dragon and they hold tremendous power in the story at this point in time. Otto Hightower was the Hand of the King from the very beginning of the show and he still holds this position currently.

His daughter, Alicent Hightower, is currently Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, and her son, Aegon, was proclaimed the King towards the end of this first season of the show. House Hightower will continue to play a very important role in the Targaryen civil war going forward, considering the fact that they are one of the perpetrators of i t.

2 House Velaryon

House Velaryon are a very old and proud house and, just like the Targaryens, they are rooted in Old Valyria. House Velaryon came to Westeros even before the Targaryens did. However, they aren't Dragonlords. There might lies in their ships and, in all of Westeros, they possess the mightiest naval fleet.

They are ruled by Lord Corlys Velaryon, who is Lord of the Tides and rules from Driftmark. They are currently allied with the Blacks and will most likely feature heavily in the coming season of House of the Dragon as well.

1 House Targaryen

Unsurprisingly, House Targaryen is the most prominent house at this time in Westeros as the entire story is focused on the Targaryen civil war that tore this house apart. At this point in time, there are several incredible Targaryen characters for fans to adore and they include the likes of Rhaenyra Targaryen, her children, her half-brothers on the side of the Greens, and Daemon Targaryen, among others.

House Targaryen's main power is their dragons and they have been called into action every now and then in the story. In the second season, the civil war between the Targaryen half-siblings is finally going to kick off and it will truly be a sight to behold.
