The Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon is headed to HBO in 2022 and it appears it's got quite a few fans already. Among those who are quite excited about House of the Dragon is the man who provided the source material, author George R.R. Martin.

House of the Dragon has been in development for quite a while now, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic slowing everything down. The prequel to Game of Thrones will delve deeper into the lore that's behind both the books and the show. But while it might need to go a bit "off cript" it does have one book it will be able to lean on in order to pattern it after George R.R. Martin's novels. Despite the fact that the show could eventually be going it alone at least a little bit, the man who created the original series has officially given the offshoot his stamp of approval.

The man, known as GRRM to his fans took to his official blog - titled Not a Blog - to talk about his excitement over House of the Dragon and the fact that other people are quite excited about the upcoming HBO show as well. In fact, he pointed out that House of the Dragon was listed as the most anticipated show of 2022 by IMDB voters.

The author of the books that the Game of Thrones series were based on was especially blown away that House of the Dragon was named one of the most anticipated shows considering the quality of the competition. He then went on to say that he's anticipating the show quite a bit himself. Martin went on to say that he's basing his excitement on the fact that he got to see a rough cut of the pilot episode of the series and was quite happy with what he saw.

While heaping praise on the creators of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones before that, he said that he thought they've done a great job on both shows. Martin then went on to say that what he's seen was dark, powerful, and visceral. He added that's exactly how he likes to get from his dark fantasy shows.

It seems like it won't be long before George R.R. Martin will be joined by the general public in finally getting to see the pilot episode of House of the Dragon. While there isn't an official release date just yet, the show is set to debut on HBO Max sometime in 2022.

House of the Dragon will release in 2022.
