The latest Game of Thrones show House of the Dragon has just finished its first season, and fans have quickly fallen in love with Westeros again. This new era of George R. R. Martin's world is filled with even more great characters and stories that fans want to delve even further into. One of the best ways to do that would be through a video game, and specifically a House of the Dragon episodic video game from Telltale Games.

Telltale Games expanded the story of Westeros in 2014 through Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series. It told a brand-new story following a never-before-seen house that existed alongside the greater Game of Thrones story. It was received pretty well by the fanbase, but the second season never saw the light of day due to a major studio closure. Telltale has since returned and is hard at work on brand-new projects like The Wolf Among Us 2 and The Expanse, and it should also give House of the Dragon a shot.

House of the Dragon Has So Many New Stories to Tell

The Iron Throne from the House of the Dragon.

House of the Dragon brings viewers back in time to the infamous Dance of Dragons that saw the Targaryen house embroiled in a civil war at the height of its power. This occurred 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen was born, and marked the beginning of the end for the house that was responsible for uniting the Seven Kingdoms. The series has been received well so far by the fanbase, and many have fallen in love with Westeros all over again.

The main focus of House of the Dragon is on members of House Targaryen and Hightower as they vie for control of the Iron Throne. The majority of the first season only took place in King's Landing and Dragonstone, with the occasional visit to the Stepstones. This leaves an entire continent of stories just waiting to be explored during this period, and a large cast of characters just waiting to be tapped. There is so much story potential in this era of Westeros, and Telltale Games may be the best ones to deliver on it.

Telltale Deserves Another Shot at Westeros

Telltale Games first foray into Game of Thrones took place during the fourth and fifth seasons of the show. It followed the northern house of House Forrester who had not been introduced yet. The game showed what this house went through during the events of Game of Thrones over six episodes. It helped to further build out the world, and it let players see more from some of their favorite characters. It almost felt like a spin-off season of Game of Thrones, and Telltale should be able to do it again.

House of the Dragon introduced a brand-new era filled to the brim with new characters that could make for great protagonists in a Telltale game. The studio could show players what the Starks were doing during this time, it could explore House Lannister before they controlled the Iron Throne, players could witness the early days of House Tyrell, or Telltale could even show House Forrester again. The events of House of the Dragon thrust the continent in a civil war, and many houses were forced to take sides, which could lead to some very interesting stories.

Telltale Games is slowly coming back, and players will have to see if the studio can still deliver intriguing adventures when The Wolf Among Us 2 launches. If it proves to be a success, then Telltale should be allowed to explore Westeros once more. While many may be clamoring for a second season of its Game of Thrones title, it may be better to explore House of the Dragon right now. Not only is it more timely, but HBO has barely scratched the surface of this new era's storytelling potential.
