As was the case for many video game genres, 2023 was a pretty excellent year for the horror gaming scene. Kicking the year off with a horrifyingly good start, Dead Space Remake was released back in January 2023, and Resident Evil 4 Remake wasn't too far behind it, giving the industry a one-two-punch combo of truly excellent horror remakes. Then the Summer saw great Indie horror games like Dredge and Sons of the Forest release, and the year was capped off in style with Alan Wake 2 and Lethal Company.

With such an impressive line-up last year, it's going to be a tough job for 2024 to reach those same heights, but this year is going to give it everything its got. From long-awaited AAA sequels and remakes to some incredibly exciting Indie titles, 2024 is already poised to be one hell of a year for the horror video game genre.

Some Promising Horror Games Are Already Confirmed for Early 2024

Every Horror Game With a Confirmed Early 2024 Release Date

  • Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden - February 13, 2024
  • The Outlast Trials - March 5, 2024 (Console)
  • Alone in the Dark - March 20 2024
  • Still Wakes The Deep - Spring 2024
  • Post Trauma - Spring 2024

While the vast majority of 2024's horror game line-up still has a tentative "TBD" release date, there are a handful of horror games that have already been given a slightly more concrete release window, with a total of five of them landing in the first half of the year. The first horror game currently set for release in 2024 is Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, a game that sees players take control of a pair of ghost hunters in North America in 1695. Coming from Don't Nod, Banishers will put story front and center, giving players numerous choices throughout the game that influence character arcs and the overarching narrative.

Released into PC early access in May of 2023, The Outlast Trials is finally getting its full release update, along with a series of ports that bring the game to Xbox One, Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. Set in the Cold War, The Outlast Trials adds a whole new layer of horror to the long-running franchise, allowing up to four players to navigate the underground maze together in co-op.

The long-awaited Alone in the Dark, a remake of the 1992 original, is also finally set to release in early 2024, after suffering a number of lengthy delays. Though Alone in the Dark doesn't look like the most visually impressive 2024 release, the star power of Jodie Comer and David Harbour as its leads could pull in general audiences.

2024 Could Be Another Stacked Year for Horror Games

Along with those five games already slated for an early 2024 release, this year has another 13 horror games that have been given tentative 2024 release windows, though this is subject to change at any time:

  • Hollowbody - TBD 2024
  • Reveil - TBD 2024
  • Paranormal Tales - TBD 2024
  • Silent Hill 2 Remake - TBD 2024

Of these 13 horror games currently slated for a 2024 release, almost every one of them has a dedicated fan-base that's eager to get their hands on them. Little Nightmares 3 is set to follow in its predecessors' footsteps, though this time the game can be played in two-player co-op. Slitterhead is an absolutely terrifying horror game that's frequently made the rounds online since its 2021 announcement due to some truly haunting enemy design. STALKER 2 is another long-awaited horror sequel with an eager fan-base. And according to a recent PlayStation promotional video, Silent Hill 2 Remake might be getting a 2024 release date as well.
