While Horizon Forbidden West has been received well so far, unfortunately, some players have been experiencing glitches and crashes that have been affecting their time with the game. Guerrilla Games has been hard at work to fix these issues since Horizon Forbidden West launched and now the game's 1.05 patch has been released with even more improvements.

One of the main problems fans had with Horizon Forbidden West were visual glitches. These were reported to appear when players played the game in performance mode, as this seemed to cause issues with sharpness settings, saturation, artifacts that were muddying images, and an unintended shimmer effect.

These visual issues seemed to particularly affect players with OLED TVs, as these gamers reportedly experienced severe issues with the game's brightness in outdoor areas. Some fans believed the issue stemmed from the way the game's HDR worked, but this was not confirmed by the developer. Thankfully, it seems as though these issues have been rectified in the game's 1.05 patch.

The patch was said to fix a plethora of different issues such as problems that players were having with quests that could end up blocking story progression, the Second Chance skill that was not working as intended, the image oversharpening in HDR mode, an issue where rapidly opening and closing the map could cause graphical issues, and an issue where the game's HUD would flicker when the player performed a loot action.

Thankfully, Horizon Forbidden West was delayed to avoid crunch, if this had not been the case, players would likely be facing even more issues. While some of the game's issues were game-breaking, Guerrilla Games should be commended for how quickly these issues were resolved. The company also stated that players should continue to inform it of any further issues they should experience at the end of the patch notes.

While Horizon Forbidden West was released with a day one patch, it is possible that Guerrilla Games were unable to pick up the visual glitches during play testing, as many of these glitches seemed to only occur for those playing on OLED TVs.

Despite the game having a few issues, players still seem to be enjoying it. An added bonus for many fans was the fact that the retail version of Horizon Forbidden West actually seems to have better visuals than what was shown in the game's 2021 State of Play trailer. Players have specifically noticed that the water graphics have improved substantially.

Horizon Forbidden West is available now on PS4 and PS5.
