There are plenty of side quests in Horizon Forbidden West, one of which is called Breaking Even. To complete it, players must investigate a cave-in at The Spinebreak: a large tunnel leading through the vast mountain range that splits the game's world in two. For the most part, it's a relatively straightforward quest with easy-to-follow objectives, but there is a little bit of mystery thrown in there as well.

Not long after defeating the mighty Rockbreaker that took out most of Porguf's crew and recovering the lockbox, players will be tasked with finding an entrance to the eastern side of the canyon. This will lead them to a shorter tunnel on the far side of the clearing, inside of which is a locked door that requires a four-digit passcode in order to open. Here's how Horizon Forbidden West players can find that code and use it to unlock the door.

What is the Spinebreak Door Code?

The code to unlock the door in the Spinebreak is 2054. As with most of the other door codes in Horizon Forbidden West, players can find this out for themselves by scanning a nearby Datapoint. The one they need is called The Other Side and can be found in a small room coming off to the right of the chamber where players need to blow up the Blaze barrels to clear an obstruction.

The door itself can be reached by passing through the hole in the wall that's formed after igniting the Blaze. Much like the room with the Datapoint in it, it can be accessed via the right side of the larger chamber. On the other side of the door there's a safe with some ancient rarities in it, which can be sold for a healthy supply of Metal Shards at any of the game's merchants.

How to Open the Spinebreak Door Early?

Though players won't legitimately be able to get the door code until the Breaking Even side quest, it is technically possible to unlock the door much sooner by accessing the cave via the eastern exit in No Man's Land. In fact, The Burning Blooms side quest actually concludes right next to the locked door, so those who just can't wait to get their hands on the treasure can search online for the code and use it to open the locked door once Talanah leaves.

Horizon Forbidden West is available now on PS4 and PS5.
