Horizon Forbidden West has been a success for Sony since its launch earlier last month. Ever since the game was announced by developer Guerilla Games at Sony’s PlayStation Experience event in 2020, fans have been looking forward to seeing the continuing adventures of Aloy in a brand-new story set all across a unique and expansive open-world.
Horizon Forbidden West, the follow-up to 2017 highly acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn, sees Aloy, once again voiced by Ashly Burch, trekking across the titular Forbidden West in order to find out why the machine animals are starting to become feral. She also has to try to stop a growing conflict between two warring tribes, and along the way, she continues to cross paths with the mysterious Sylens - played by John Wick’s Lance Reddick - who assisted Aloy during the events of the previous game despite his questionable motives. Throughout the game, she makes good use of the Focus that she received in the first game.
A major item introduced in first Horizon, a Focus is an augmented reality device that aids its wearer in operating different types of machinery and technology, and it was a major piece of techology in what the characters of the game refer to as "the old world". One of the devices is found by Aloy as a child during Zero Dawn’s introduction, and since then, it has become an iconic piece of Aloy’s attire. Now, fans have taken this small item and created a physical version that can be worn in real life.
Posted on Reddit’s r/horizon, user BeveledUp showcased their custom-made prop Focus as seen in Horizon Forbidden West. The user also linked a tutorial of how they put together this prop so that user could create their own if they so wished, which could be perfect for displaying as a prop or using for cosplay.
The replica is an incredible achievement, and the tutorial on how the user created the device is just as impressive. While there have been plenty of fan created works in the past, such as fan art that was created in Dreams, this is another level of dedication to physically bring a piece of the game to life.
Thus far, reviews for Horizon Forbidden West have praised the game for improving on the many aspects of the original, both in terms of story and gameplay. Fans and new players alike are sure to have lots of fun with the game and are sure to create new homages such as this in the future.
