  • Expectations are high for the game's PC release.
  • Sony plans to expand Horizon into different genres and mediums.

PlayStation has announced the system requirements for this month’s Horizon Forbidden West PC release. Since its release, the game has been one of the most anticipated PlayStation-to-PC ports for gamers, particularly after the success of the first Horizon PC release. Now, with Horizon Forbidden West on PC weeks away, fans can prepare their setups just in time for the game's launch on the platform.

The Horizon games are among the most successful franchises for Sony's suite of first-party games. The company expanded the franchise's popularity beyond the PlayStation ecosystem when it released Horizon Zero Dawn on PC in 2020. By May 2023, the Horizon series crossed 32.7 million copies in sales, with the sequel selling over 8.4 million units at the time. This means that Sony may have similarly high expectations for Horizon Forbidden West on PC.

Sony seems intent on expanding Horizon into different genres and mediums, and one inclusion in Forbidden West could be a good starting point.

Sony revealed four different levels of PC system requirements for Horizon Forbidden West. General requirements to run the game at any level include 16GB RAM, 150GB SSD storage, and Windows 10 64-bit (version 1909 or higher). At its minimum setting, players can expect a 720P at 30 FPS performance with an Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD Ryzen 3 1300X processor and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB or AMD Radeon RX 5500XT 4GB GPU. The studio also mentioned that when Horizon Forbidden West on PC hits stores later this month, players can opt to tweak visuals and performance settings to personal preferences, down to details like textures, shadows, terrain, and film grain effects.

While the sequel is set to release on PC, it isn't the only Horizon project on the way. It's believed that both Horizon 3 and the live-action Netflix adaptation of the series are in the works, along with rumors of a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster for the PS5 and a Horizon-based MMORPG. There have barely been any updates on either of these projects from Guerrilla Games, although it wouldn't be unexpected for the studio to make an announcement in the coming months.

However, it's worth noting that some of these projects may have taken a hit after Sony recently laid off 900 staff from its PlayStation division, which included Guerrilla Games. It remains to be seen how far Sony's cutbacks have impacted Guerrilla's future, particularly concerning its ambitions to expand the Horizon IP. In any case, if the Horizon Forbidden West on PC announcement is anything to go by, it's that the series continues to be an exciting choice for many gamers all around.
