While Horizon Forbidden West takes Aloy into unfamiliar territory, that doesn't necessarily mean she has no allies. While going through the main story and doing side quests, players will encounter some familiar faces from Horizon Zero Dawn. One such character, Talanah, is encountered during the side quest 'The Burning Blooms'.
Normally side quests are self-contained stories. However, 'The Burning Blooms' is followed up by 'Need to Know' as Talanah continues to look for Amadis. For this next side quest, it is recommended that players be at least Level 25 before starting it. This guide will show Horizon Forbidden West players how to complete 'Need to Know'.
Speak With Talanah
Talanah waits for players at the Oseram Camp southwest of the Base. There an Oseram scout named Ragurt provides information on where the Rot is, which is the place that Amadis was searching for. To advance the quest, choose the dialogue option "To the Rot".
Meet With Talanah Outside Thornmarsh
With the information provided by Ragurt, follow the waypoint to reach a spot outside Thornmarsh where Talanah is waiting. Speak to her to trigger a cutscene where Talanah comes clean about her motive for wanting to find Amadis.
Follow Talanah, and eventually she comes across Amadis fighting a large Fireclaw. Help him kill it and then speak to him and Talanah. Choose "Let's keep moving" to advance the quest.
Follow Amadis
After the cutscene wraps up, follow Amadis and Talanah as they go toward the Rot. There they discover that the prison has been taken over by Rebel Tenakth. The Rot is well guarded, and it won't be easy to get in.
How to Get into the Rot
Approach the building and go left toward the ocean. Follow along the wall to eventually come across a large opening with some tall grass. There is plenty of tall grass throughout the prison, so it is fairly easy to stay out of sight and stealth kill any guards that get too close.
Use the Focus to find the mechanism that controls the gate. Use rocks to distract any guards that are in the way, or try to stealth kill them if possible. Approach the device that controls the gate and activate it.
Kill the Rebels
Once Amadis and Talanah have rejoined Aloy, it is time to clear out the Rot. Kill every single Rebel in the area to progress the quest. There are lots of environmental hazards and heavy weapons scattered around the camp. They can be useful for quickly killing the Rebels. Once all the Rebels are dead, a cutscene will play and a Tideripper will appear.
Talk to Talanah
Once the Tideripper has been dealt with, find Talanah and speak with her. This triggers another cutscene where Amadis learns the truth about Nessa, his long-lost love. After the cutscene ends, the quest completes and players get their rewards.
