Early alpha game footage of a Horizon Forbidden West multiplayer game has leaked online. Horizon is an action role-playing game developed by Sony's Guerrilla Games. The series takes place in a post-apocalyptic version of the United States and stars Aloy, a young hunter of the Nora tribe, who sets off her journey to uncover mysteries about the world she lives in and defend her people from the various threats abroad.

The gameplay in Horizon largely revolves around Aloy using a variety of ranged and melee weapons to battle against hostile machine creatures that often resemble dinosaurs and other extinct creatures. From the original release of Horizon Zero Dawn for PS4, fans have speculated on the possibilities of the game becoming a multiplayer experience in the same realm of other popular co-op games like Monster Hunter.

Late last year, Guerrilla Games also confirmed a Horizon co-op game was in development. Most recently, there have been alleged leaks dating back to 2020 that feature early alpha game footage of a potential Horizon Forbidden West multiplayer. In the video circulating online, there are a set of diverse stylized characters that explore and battle machine enemies. The style of the game is noticeably different from the Horizon series and goes for a more cartoony aesthetic as opposed to the more realistic art style used for the main games. Other gamers shared their thoughts on the leaked footage in the replies to the video. Several users commented on how they would love to play a Horizon game that has deep hunting mechanics similar to the Monster Hunter series. One user commented on how they are excited to see the progress the game has made from pre-alpha footage to the final product, especially with the use of the Decima engine. Other users commented on the art style of the game, several of them being disappointed at the cartoony aesthetic that reminds them more of games like Fortnite than Horizon Forbidden West.

This leak, if confirmed to be true, is another of the many video game announcements and gameplay footage that have leaked online over the past few years. As fans, it can be exciting to learn new information about games, but hopefully it does not negatively impact the talent working on these projects. Until an official announcement is made, fans can look forward to Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, a DLC expansion exclusive to the PS5 that is scheduled to release in April as well as the VR2 launch game, Horizon Call of the Mountain.
