This addition gives Horizon Forbidden West players a way to pay homage to the late Sylens actor, who has been a key character in the franchise ever since the release of Horizon Zero Dawn in 2017.Lance Reddick played Sylens in the Horizon games, a mysterious character fascinated by the technology of the Old Ones, the fallen civilization that created the machines roaming around the world. Sylens is a recurring character in the Horizon franchise, sometimes seen as a cunning character and sometimes as an ally helping Aloy uncover the truth behind the fate of the Old Ones. Sylens’ actor Lance Reddick passed away in March 2023, one month before the release of the Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC. A holographic light rises from the floor, with the name of Lance Reddick shining above the ground. This memorial is located on the island where Aloy meets Seyka for the first time, on the first island players visit in the Burning Shores DLC. Players who struggle to find the memorial can easily spot it at night since the holographic light can be seen from afar.

Players praised Guerrilla Games for the addition of this Lance Reddick memorial to Horizon Forbidden West. They shared their favorite interactions between Aloy and Sylens on social media and paid tribute to the late actor at his in-game memorial. Guerrilla Games published a message upon learning of Reddick’s passing to highlight his importance for both the developers and the community. The addition of an in-game memorial in Horizon Forbidden West gives players a place to commemorate Reddick’s work as Sylens.

The Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC takes Aloy to the volcanic archipelago of Los Angeles, where she needs to save the world from a new sinister threat. Guerrilla Games is currently working on a Horizon Forbidden West sequel to pursue the adventures of Aloy, and a Horizon multiplayer game is also in development to let players explore this post-apocalyptic world with their friends and team up to defeat the machines.
