Along the way, the red-headed heroine will make new friends and come up against several new types of machines. The expansion features new weapons and outfits too, as well as more puzzles, collectibles, and side quests. It's also a chance for players to say a final farewell to Sylens, whose voice actor and character model Lance Reddick tragically passed away in March of 2023. Before any of that though, players will need to figure out how to actually start the Burning Shores DLC.

Assuming players have already purchased and downloaded the Burning Shores DLC, they'll be able to start playing it from midnight on April 19, local time. In order to get the ball rolling, they'll need to have completed the main story of Horizon Forbidden West, after which, Sylens will contact Aloy through her Focus. He'll mention that a complication has come to his attention and ask her to meet him at Tilda's mansion, which he's been using as his headquarters while exploring the Far Zenith base.

Once the conversation ends, the "To the Burning Shores" main quest will officially begin. When they arrive at the marked location, Sylens will reveal that there is still a Zenith roaming around on Earth and will ask Aloy to track him down. The rogue Zenith in question is a man named Walter Londra, a former celebrity who made a name for himself by investing in holographic technology. Like all of the biggest celebrities, Londra can be found in Hollywood, meaning a trip to the titular Burning Shores is now in order.
