Just like in the previous game, Tallnecks can be spotted all across the west coast in Horizon Forbidden West. Those who played Horizon Zero Dawn will know what to expect, as Tallnecks play the same role in the sequel as they did in the first game.

Each Tallneck encountered has all sorts of useful information about the area, but in order to access it players must override the Tallneck by climbing up to its head. Every Tallneck has its own challenge as to how to get high enough to reach the top. This guide will show Horizon Forbidden West players how to override the Tallneck in Landfall.

Where to Find the Tallneck in Landfall

The Tallneck near Landfall can be found south of Legacy's Landfall, which is a settlement belonging to the Quen. Simply walking down the coastline, players will eventually see the Tallneck stuck in the ocean.

How to Override the Tallneck in Landfall

The first step Horizon Forbidden West players will need to do is dive into the water and swim down toward where the Tallneck is stuck. Analyze the Tallneck with the Focus, and swim up toward its back. There will be a spot where players can examine an empty socket. Having the Diving Mask is recommended, if players don't have it already.

Aloy speculates that the parts on the Tallneck were pulled off and stolen by Glinthawks. The quest will update, and a waypoint will highlight where the Glinthawk nest is. Return to the surface and swim toward the two nests northeast of the Tallneck.

How to Get the Tallneck Parts

In order to reach the first nest, look for a ladder hanging over the water and shoot the orange part with an arrow. This will cause the ladder to drop. On the building directly across from the ladder, there is a crate that can be pushed. Push it closer to the edge and then sprint, jump and quickly glide across toward the ladder. If timed correctly, it is possible to grab the ladder before falling into the water.

Jump across the ruined buildings, and approach the area where the Glinthawk is resting. Kill it and then search the junk pile next to it to find the first piece of the Tallneck.

For the next part, go toward the larger building nearby with the Snapmaw swimming around. Dive and swim into the ruins to find a place to emerge inside. There will be a spot above where players can use the Pullcaster. Climb up and move along the beams to reach a nearby Glinthawk nest. Kill the Glinthawk and then search the nest for the second part. The pile that contains the part is above where the Glinthawk was perched.

Insert the Parts into the Tallneck

With both parts successfully obtained, head back to the Tallneck. Dive back down to the spot where the parts were missing on the Tallneck and insert them. A brief cutscene will play and the Tallneck will begin to move around again. Unfortunately, it moves too fast to be able to swim and grab onto it.

How to Get onto the Tallneck

Follow the Tallneck and look for a ruined building to the right where there is a ladder. Dive and look for a way into the building. Once inside the ruin, swim back toward the surface and walk up the dangerous looking stairs. Watch the path of the Tallneck and move toward the roof it is nearest. If timed correctly, players will be able to jump onto the Tallneck and slowly climb their way up to the top and override it.

Horizon Forbidden West is available now on PS4 and PS5.
