In Horizon Forbidden West, Aloy must travel to the west to basically stop the entire world from perishing, which is no easy feat. Of course, like the previous Horizon game, players will constantly fight against the robot dinosaurs that roam the land by using stealth or going all out with Aloy's vast array of weaponry and traps. For the players that prefer a playstyle that's more stealthy than guns blazing, learning how to crouch in Horizon Forbidden West will be crucial to keeping quiet and avoiding unnecessary encounters.

Players will notice slightly taller patches of grass near enemies and this is where they need to crouch so that the Horizon Forbidden West machines don't notice Aloy. From here, players can use their focus ability by clicking in the right stick, allowing Aloy to scan machines to see their weaknesses, patterns, and general tips on the best way to take them down.

How to Crouch in Horizon Forbidden West

horizon forbidden west crouch aloy

Press the Square button on the PS4 or PS5 controller to crouch in Horizon Forbidden West --it's as simple as that. The in-game tutorial pop-ups will not mention crouching until a little way through the opening mission, so it makes sense why some players might have questions on how to perform the action. To get out of the crouch and go back to standing normally, simply press the Square button one more time.

How to Slide

The sliding mechanic in Horizon Forbidden West can be used to traverse the environment or during battles to quickly get away from machines. Another way to take advantage of the slide is to use it to quickly get under cover in a bush/tall grass. To slide, just press the crouch button while running. After the sliding animation is over, Aloy will remain in a crouching position until players press the Square button once more.

While sliding, players can also shoot an arrow from their bows, attack with their melee weapon, and perform some other actions. There will also be points throughout the game where players will need to crouch to enter small openings.

The move looks really slick in combat, so players should experiment with it to see all the things they can do with it in Horizon Forbidden West.

Horizon Forbidden West is available now for PS4 and PS5.
