Horizon Forbidden West is one of PlayStation's most anticipated releases this year, and believe it or not, it is only a few weeks away from launch. Well, fans can really start getting excited as Guerrilla Games has confirmed Horizon Forbidden West has officially gone gold, signifying the game is practically ready to go.

The phrase "gone gold" is one that should sound like music to every gamer and developer's ears, it representing an important milestone in the video game development process. Basically, when a video game goes gold, the development team has finalized the build of the game that will be sent out for publishing on disc or become downloadable from internet retailers. In some cases, games like Elden Ring can go gold months in advance of their release date in order to prioritize development of the often dreaded day one patch. Other times, though, titles will go gold within a month or so of their launch, like with many single player titles.

In a tweet and update to the PlayStation Blog, Guerrilla Games has announced that Horizon Forbidden West has gone gold. Studio Director and Executive Producer Angie Smets pens the blog post, writing, "Horizon Forbidden West has gone Gold! This means we are all set to start printing and distributing the game, ready for you to experience Aloy's journey into the Forbidden West for yourselves in less than a month." They go on to issue a big congratulation to the team at Guerrilla for their hard work and what they have achieved, as well a big thank you for the PlayStation community for its support.

Both the tweet and blog post reference a clip from the latest Horizon Forbidden West story trailer. Towards the end of the clip, an unfamiliar golden being can be seen forming, who tells Aloy to beware, that she and the being are not the only ones looking for answers in the Forbidden West. This ends up being a reveal for Horizon Forbidden West's new character portrayed by Carrie Ann Moss named Tilda, being set up as a potential obstacle that Aloy will have to overcome. Either way, the gold design of the entity that warns Aloy is clearly being referenced in Horizon Forbidden West having gone gold itself.

There are only a few more weeks before players can tackle the threats to be found in Horizon Forbidden West. Players may want to take another trip through Horizon Zero Dawn as Horizon Forbidden West has teased the multitude of ways it will be building upon that first title. With the balance of returning friends and creatures, as well as surprising new enemies and locations, chances are the trek through the Forbidden West will be one of this year's most memorable journeys.

Horizon Forbidden West launches February 18 on PS4 and PS5.
