Unfortunately for PlayStation 4 gamers that have yet to get their hands on a PS5 console, it's been confirmed that the upcoming Burning Shores DLC for Horizon Forbidden West will be skipping the PS4. Horizon Forbidden West DLC had been rumored for some time, and it was finally revealed to the world at The Game Awards 2022.

The Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores trailer confirmed that the DLC will be available to franchise fans beginning April 19, 2023. Many fans were impressed by the trailer and are excited to visit post-apocalyptic Los Angeles in the world of Horizon Forbidden West. However, others were upset when the trailer only made mention of PS5, and many are even angrier now that it's been confirmed that the Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC will be PS5-exclusive.

Burning Shores' PS5 exclusivity was confirmed by Guerrilla Games in a PlayStation Blog post shortly after the Game Awards announcement. The post confirmed some details about what fans can expect from the Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC, and it also confirmed that it will be coming exclusively to PlayStation 5. Guerrilla described this move as a "difficult decision" that it made so the DLC can achieve the studio's "grand vision" from both a technical and creative standpoint.

Despite this explanation, there are still many Horizon Forbidden West fans who are not happy about this news. The argument has been made that if the post-launch DLC was going to skip the PS4 version, then Guerrilla should have made the game a PS5 exclusive to begin with instead of releasing Horizon Forbidden West as a cross-gen release. Now PS4 gamers who dedicated time completing Aloy's new adventure will simply be out of luck until they manage to get a PS5, which is still difficult to do, even with increased supply.

While the revelation that the Horizon Forbidden West DLC is PS5 exclusive has understandably upset some players, others are still excited to see what the DLC has in store. According to the same blog post, Horizon Forbidden West's Burning Shores DLC will see Aloy explore Los Angeles both in the sky on the back of a Sunwing and underwater, where she will encounter a "massive machine." Details on how long the Horizon Forbidden West DLC will be or how large its version of Los Angeles is are unavailable at the time of this writing, but fans should find out closer to the DLC's release next year.

Horizon Forbidden West is available now for PS4 and PS5.
